Okay, it's obvious that we've taken our sugar pills today. It's beautiful that we all love each other so much that we write multiple tribute threads to each other, not so much as a tribute but to see how many responses we get. But I'm getting cavities here, folks.

I suggest we do some killing instead. Anyone up for Mafia, starting next Monday?

The Rules for Review (we're playing the same game as last time):

********************

I found the rules for IRL Mafia elsewhere on the web, and thought it would be fun to play it the way they suggest, just online. Here’s the rules.

quote:
The more players you have for this game, the more fun you'll have.
It has some tricky rules, but you'll get the hang of it, it calms the group down, but is great fun!

All the players sit in a circle. All you need is a deck of cards. One person is "the lookout" and stays out of the circle. The lookout then takes the deck of cards (face down, so no one can see them) and goes around the circle letting everyone pick only 1 card from the deck. Once everyone has their card (be sure that they don't show them to anyone else) and the lookout then tells them the rules.

The lookout should tell them that if they have a king card, they are a cop. If they have an ace card, they are a part of the mafia. It is important they don't tell anyone who they are. The lookout now says, "its night time!" and everyone shuts their eyes and puts their head down to their lap. Then the lookout says,"police, heads up" and the people who have king cards should put their heads up to show the lookout who they are. As soon as the lookout says "heads down" the police put their heads down. Then the lookout shouts "mafia, heads up!" and the people with Ace cards put their heads up, to show the lookout who they are. The lookout once again says: "heads down", and then says "its daytime!" and everyone puts their heads up.

Now that the lookout knows who the mafia and policemen are, he can assume everyone else is a citizen (people with a Queen, a Jack or a number card.) Now the lookout can repeat the process of "night time". But the second time he does this, when the policeman's heads are up, the policeman can point to one person, and the lookout can tell them whether they are citizen or mafia. When the mafia's heads are up, the mafia can point to one person, but the lookout says nothing, the person they point to is automatically "Dead" and out of the game. When "Daytime" comes, the lookout says whoever the mafia pointed at: "You're dead" and the person can now reveal who he was. You can then go around the circle and have one person accuse someone of being in the mafia. Everyone votes to get that person out. If enough people vote, he is out, and can reveal who he is, if not enough people vote, he stays in the game, still not revealing who he is.

The object is to have the policeman or citizens get all 4 of the mafia out of the game. If this happens, the mafia has lost. If the mafia get all 4 policeman out of the game, the mafia has won.

Modifications for online:
  • I will assign the roles. The only roles in this game are Policemen, Doctor and Mafia.
We will use email instead of “heads up” for the policemen and the mafia. Everyone will get an initial email with their role: Citizen, Policeman, Doctor or Mafia.
  • You won’t know how many policemen and how many mafia there are.
  • The Doctor may not save the same person two days in a row. They may only choose to save themselves once.
  • All players must post on the mafia threads at least once per “Day”. If you can’t for some reason, post ahead of time that you will not be able to post for a particular day. If you don’t, you will get one warning, then die of natural causes.
  • I will reveal the roles as they die.
  • The object of the game is kill all the mafia. If this happens, the mafia has lost. For the mafia to win, they must outnumber the citizens.
Schedule:Night falls at 9pm Pacific. When night falls, the citizens must have their votes in. You may choose not to vote.

Daytime starts at around 9am Pacific. I will announce the lynching victim and mafia kill at that time.

I need to hear from the Mafia, Doctor, and Policeman each day before 7am Pacific.

The game starts Monday, Sept 22nd and runs Monday through Friday. We will break for the weekends. If the game is still going, we will skip Monday the 29th, as I will be out of town that day. The game will resume Tuesday the 30th.

Questions?

SM, I think that would be great fun too. Unfortunately, I don't think I could write a Monty Python Mafia game without doing a lot of research ahead of time, getting my head in Monty Python first. That might have ugly results for my home life. [Smile]

:::imagines:::

A shot rang out, hitting (nameless personx) in the small of her back.

"Oh no!" said the townspeople with one voice. "She's dead!"

"I'm not dead yet." said X.

"Mafia, you will rue the day you decided to kill X." said (namelesspersony).

"I'm not dead yet!" said X.

"Mafia, you will pay for mortally wounding X," yelled Y.

"I think I might pull through," said X.

[/imagines]

I see how it wouldn't be mete for a non-python fan. Heck, I barely know enough of the lingo to pull off a good one.

Eruve Nandiriel
Feyd Baron

Happy Camper
Head Ditch Digger

pajeba

Troubador
Youth ap Orem
Zevlag

Ralphie are you in? I still don't know if I can write Monty Python style. So that's still a "we'll see". I loved SM's sample though. And the thought of the Holy Handgrenade, the Vorpal Bunny, and Castle Anthrax is almost too much to resist at least trying.
