I have been reading the book and find it equal parts fascinating and infuriating. I feel he has some excellent insights on myth, cultural collusion, and universal themes. On the other hand, there were times that he came off as preachy and condescending to Western monotheism. Still other times he seemed to be showing off as a story teller, or at least collector of stories.

I am wondering how others who have read the book think of it? To add one more layer, do you think OSC's books and stories follow Joseph Campbell's observations?

if you just glance at all the chapter titles of the book and read them in a row, it's a brief run through of the plot of Star Wars...

Interesting enough, I read it with Star Wars in mind as everyone has claimed the two are related. However, I came away feeling like Star Wars was more shallow than I had previously thought. It touches on the great historical themes only superficially.

Well, from what I know, George Lucas and Joseph Campbell were friends, and Lucas based Star Wars off of Campbell's stuff.

At least I think is what we learned in Lit class...
