So a few months ago, I was told that the new hires for the year would have to provide entertainment at the Christmas party (as it is a tradition of sorts). I thought I was told the correct date back then - the 17th of December. So I figured that starting to work on it around the 1st wouldn't be too late.

Except I just found out today that the party is on the 6th - a day, it turns out, that I will not be in town.

I still want to contribute to the entertainment. The ideas I have already are party games with cash prizes (provided by the boss-man), such as Pictionary, and Uno (or an Uno tournament). Another possibility would be Bingo with various prizes (such as restaurant gift certificates, or other neat items). What party games do you all like playing? What would make a memorable and fun evening for everyone involved?

Russian roulette.
Who-can-hold-their-breath-the-longest.
ThunderDome.
The Battle of Wits(from The Princess Bride)

Some inadvertent side effects are that you never have to fire anyone ever again, and natural selection will leave you with smarter, stronger employees...

I arrange parties for a living. I have all kinds of ideas, and I travel as far as Rockford.

Do you have $3,500 to spend on the party? I could arrange Inflated Twister, Sumo Wrestling, Video Karaoke and an Air Hockey Tourney for Saturday.

If not, stay away from games like "Scruples"

Trivia Pursuit or a Trivia Contest using company info, policy, and even juicy rumors is always useful. And your boss sees you working at the entertainment--mucho brownie points.

I've also seen Newly Wed Game for Couples of all ages, where husbands and wives compete in gameshow style. Again, you should edit the questions. You don't want your bosses knowing the strangest place you ever made whooopie was on his desk.

You know, I would actually be highly uncomfortable at an office party like some of the ones described. I wonder why; I'm not naturally reticent, but the idea still creeps me out.

Cranium is a fun party game, even with people who are serious sticks-in-the-mud. I had a great time playing it with my two neices who never smile (they still didn't smile, but said afterward that they'd had lots of fun).

I also like the Uno take-off game, Phase 10.

Unfortunately, Dan, I can't see my boss putting up $3500 for one party (plus dinner). It'd be awesome if he'd foot the bill, though... I'd love to see what one of your parties were like!

I'm leaning towards games that can be played for prizes, now. I spoke with one of my ex-colleagues about last year's party and he said that they played Company Jeopardy for money, and everyone got *very* competetive pretty quickly. I'd rather avoid any ugliness of that sort on my go around. I'm thinking games with gift card prizes, or neat stuff of some sort. Bingo is probably a little too boring for a party like this, but it fits well with the prize winning scheme I've cooked up... any other games that go well with prize winning? I'd rather not use the same game as last year's party.

Bump!

I've passed a couple ideas on to the other fellows who'll be doing the actual work, but there hasn't been a concensus yet.

Any more ideas?

I'd like to second the vote for cranium, it's the best of all party games, plus you could make it office specific, by creating your own version of it with office trivia, charades of people in the office, sculpting office furniture, etc... I did that with my classes at school and we had a blast!
