Things for any room:

1. A lovely little mixed-medium Field of Poppies is available from Ranka. She also has a better-than-average study of a Sleeping Cat going soon. Strong, bright colors, well-balanced composition, and ready-framed. She's one to keep an eye on.

2. Beautiful earthtone pastel Female Nude. Graceful curve, tonally interesting, and exquisite shading. Very nice. 16x13. Worth a look, but going soon. Breathtaking!

3. Holly Gann's acrylic Church Reflection is the steal of the day at (currently) $5.74 for a 12x16 landscape. Evocative of clear fall day, intense autumn leaf colors, and unexpected use of reflection. Mmmm. Well done.

4. Fred Bell has a few good fruit still lifes. The best is Apple on Plate. He's finding his niche, and the balance in this one is quite good.

Fairy Art:

1. Molly has a stash of things up for grabs. Inexpensive, delicate, and collectible.

2. Gullerud has a fairy in bright primary colors -- really nice.

Weird stuff:

1. Along with the requisite, er, amateurish attempts, we have an odd set of portraits from M. Jones, including You Know You Want Me, Conceited Pinhead, and Yellow-Toothed Ho. Distinct style, strange, but compelling in a Picasso/train-wreck kinda way.

2. Martini art continues to reign with Evil Eye Martini.

Best watercolors:

1. Lovely original piece, First Snow, of child looking out the window. How did she get the clarity of tones in the face? Warning: has a reserve not yet met, may end up being pricey.

2. There's also a beautiful print of Watercolor Poppies. It is, however, a print.

Photography:

Black and white silhouettes of cats in tri-window.

PS: Yes, it is bandwidth wastage. But this may well be the only therapy I have, and my Ebay art obsession has to be dealt with somehow. The Ebay Art Budget goes so quickly these days. I promise to keep it to one thread, and I do take requests. Christmas is coming! *hint, hint

OMG, CT!

I LOVE your taste. I can tell you like the simple images, and have a fondness for red. [Wink]

Those were all cool. I had no idea such things were out there on ebay. What a deal.

(call me sometime, why doncha? [Smile] )

Olivia, I will call you today. I was going to, anyway (seeing you post lately has reminded me how much I miss you).

Spreading the joy of Ebay Self-Representing Artists is one of my modest goals in life. [Smile] And yeah, I guess I am drawn to red.

When I first saw how much really good work was being self-represented on Ebay, I was flabbergasted. Sure, there's a lot of junk, but there a real opportunity to support good struggling artists. And why would you spend $40 at WalMart for a piece you could see at a friend's house, when you could spend the same amount (even with S/H) for something one-of-a-kind that strikes your fancy?

Wouldn't these make awesome Christmas gifts?

(mack, why "damn"? Were you jonesing for a different category? I've also selected out folkart landscape, primitive cats, and (self-titled) gay male nudes. Want a gothic mermaid oil, or an impressionist garden, or floral still life in acrylics? Howsabout pen-and-ink "Hobbit Art" from Canada? The best of the lot, all selected out especially for you, just for the asking. [Big Grin] I'm, like, the Ebay Art Buyer for Hatrack -- you wants it, I finds it.)

Cool, crisp winter landscape

Hey! Another still life by Terri Snider. Strong primary colors, but less well-developed than his later pieces. Despite the candlelight, the shading is not a strong point.

Primitive wisteria housefront with soft tones and warm hues. Pretty. Comes well-matted.

Another early Snider -- Old World Villa. Again, not as strong as the later work, but rich colors, and representative of the genre. Trees underdeveloped.

Primitive lithographic Two Corgis on Red Sofa, dedicated to BannaJo. [Smile]

Large acrylic Caribbean Woman Dancing. Good motion, vibrancy, red/gold tones.

Lots of goth fairy/mermaid/witch stuff coming due in about 5-6 hours.

If I decide, as a desparate money-making effort, to become an eBay artist, will you guys all make token bids on my stuff?

Annie, I will spotlight your work in my reviews here, and I'd happily buy something myself. BTW, I've been cruising self-represented art on Ebay for awhile, and I'd be delighted to act as unpaid part-time consultant for marketing. I know what works, including what time of day to time the end of the bidding.

No. It just makes me happy to look at them. [Smile] I can't bid on anything else this month.

Annie, please, do consider going semi-commercial. People deserve to see you.

I did like the Cats siloette painting the best, but the title "You know you want me" almost makes me laugh.

For some reason, I can't get into the ebay site (I think there is something wrong with my modem, it's being an oddly selective firewall, or something), but I really like seeing the art. Do you think you could post some more websites of self-represented artists (sites without the word "ebay" in the url, hehe)? I can sometimes see stuff from THOSE websites, and I really like your taste in art.

[Smile]

Yay art!

Wow, CT. Do you really just sift through the bad stuff to find the good stuff? How do you even search? I mean, eBay is a big place...I very rarely browse there because of that. I go if I know exactly what I'm looking for! And even then, it's sometimes hard to sift.

I know, Vana, I had a hard time finding stuff, and in desperation, I emailed CT and asked her to resurrect this thread. *grin* I think she should give us an internet class on how to find 'good' art on E-bay.

I found this fun link Abovecloud Art Galleries which is a sort of collective of Chinese artists. I haven't really looked through it thoroughly, so I might not have it exactly correct. There is some impressive calligraphy on this site, as well as some knee-melting landscapes by Chen Yong.

*shakes fist at CT*

Durn you and your art meme!

Darn it! They're so beautiful. I just know I'll end up buying some.

I hope I can hold off until after Christmas! Or pick one or two to ask for for Christmas!

There are some darn good artists on that list.

I almost bought something, but I have to think about it.

OH well, I'm going to link to that segment of e-bay for sure.

I just bought the coolest piece of abstract art from the self-represented artists page. It already has a place waiting for it in my dining room. Perfect colors and the image makes it look to me like a doorway to another world. A fuzzy out of focus world, to be sure. But another world nonetheless.

I'm very psyched.

Thanks CT for pointing the way to this stuff.

Bob, it is so amazing. I've had nothing but good experiences with the dozen or so people I've worked with through eBay. Sometimes the artists include a little note, and I try to keep these with the original picture.

I can't think of a better use of my decorating money. Every piece I have now is like an old friend. [Smile]

Edit to answer: I skim through the Self-Representing Artists selection every now and then as a treat. Usually I limit it to the "Going, going, gone" set (about 7-8 pages) or "Ending today" sales (about 25-30 pages). I've come to recognize what I like from the tiny snapshots posted in the mass listing -- form, tone, and balance are fairly obvious with practice.

My purchase from the self-representing artists category on e-bay arrived today. It's amazing!

If you are interested in seeing a photo or two, let me know and I'll e-mail you.

Thanks for starting this thread, CT! I can't believe how great that painting is.

I found something new (curse you, CT! *shakes fist*) that I like...it's only $199....anyone want to buy this for me?

*grin*

Verrrrry pretty.

And AJ, I know, the Chinese artists are fabulous! Let me know what your friends get (if they get anything).

Some time after the holidays (like, say, three months from now! ha!) I will HAVE to buy myself something.

More art!

I love how this one has a fairy that is less than waif-like. And this one has great trees . Besides, I love ladybugs. This wizard dude looks kind of lonely sitting on his window sill.

Aaaaaaart! Lub it!
