Today I went and exchanged Michael Crichton's Prey (which is good, but I know because I got the hardback last Christmas) for The Gunslinger. That's right, I am starting the Dark Tower series at last. Ironically, it was this very book that kept me from starting it before. I thought it was King's attempt at a Western, and I was sure he would do a lousy job.

Then I went to renew my car registration. My insurance card had evaporated, and after hunting for quite a while I went to the offices and got a new one. It's almost enough to make me start ranting about why do we need all these papers just to drive a car anyway?...but I won't.

While I was doing that, a big red Public Works truck started into the intersection while I was passing through. I have no explanation--it was a four-way stop, and I was just a few feet away in full view. Maybe the driver fell asleep. Anyway, when I noticed I don't think the truck was more than a foot away from the passenger door. I must have reacted very fast...I swerved into the other lane and the paint isn't even scratched, but I was very shaky for a little while.

Once I had recovered, I went to Paducah to search for a few guilty pleasures at the bookstores and came home with Crossroads of Twilight and the Star Trek Lost Era novel Well of Souls. Sadly, I did not see any book in the Alvin Maker series except Crystal City (I'm not there yet!), or I would've bought it.

So how was your New Year's Eve?

It's more of a tract than a system...

That's why it gets jealous sometimes of the other "real" systems and pitches a fit.

Sorry you aren't feeling well. Get better soon!!

I'd offer to send you some chicken vegie soup, mack, but I don't think you'd like it . . . there is not a single bit of bone to choke you at all, so it owuld be a totally bizarre experience. [Razz]

Seriously - I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. [Frown] Rest up, drink plenty of fluids and meditate on healing thoughts.
