Edward has little fight experiance, but the drawings in the movie show that under his skin are a series of metal rings in place of human bone structure, which Jack wouldn't realize, and wouldn't know how do deel with, since he was like a robot I'm not even sure he could die.
On the other hand:
Jack is a way better fighter, Edwards weapons don't have as much reach as Jack's sword, so Edward might never get close enough to him to do any damage, and Jack is far more clever, and is better able to think quickly and improvise.
So who do think would win in a fight?
And which character do you like more?

Since they are the same person, I'd say it would be a draw. Any fatal injuries would be acts of suicide.

well I figure it was a the characters not the performer being discussed primarily, so it didn't matter that they were both played by the same person.
I mean I'm not planning to make a movie based on the thread, so it I didn't think it mattered greatly that the same person played both of them.

originally yes, but I spent too long thinking about it, so I thought they might be interesting to compare, and since several of the women of hatrack seem to quite taken with Mr.Depp I was curious which one of his characters they preferred.
Or which one would be cooler to be? Which one is scarrier? Which is more powerful? What is interesting about them and why?
Also I figured a fight between them would be so bizarre, the two are so different, and neither is really prepared to fight the other, but could be quite dangerous, so it seemed like an interesting topic to me.
Oh well, I'm sure I'm not the first person to start a thread that was decided to be pointless and unneeded, and I'm also sure I won't be the last.
Still I think Edwars Scissorhands is a cool movie.

Edward Scissorhands is one of the coolest movies ever. But he's clearly too gentle and loving to win a fight to the death.

Not just the "women of hatrack"...(although I, one of those who is "quite taken", am, in fact female) But really, a character like Jack appeals to ALL. There's no denying, I have firsthand info.
Anyway, Edward wouldn't fight. He'd probably notice that Kim was in love with Jack (and she would be if human ) and not just spare his life, but help secure his ship.
Seriously, I think Edward Scissorhands is a MUCH better movie. The story is good, good acting, good script and there's just plain more going on. But that's to be expected from me; I hold that without Johnny's Sparrow Pirates would just be another steriotypical (spelling?) summer flick flop.

After reading that I was trying to think who else would have been good in that role...and I'm still trying to think who else would make a good Jack Sparrow. I think Depp the obviously the man for the job.
I've often wished they would do another movie about Edward though, I mean at the end when the grandmother was telling the story he was still there at the old house and hadn't aged at all. But I suppose it would be really difficult to come up with a new story about him that would make sense, and be interesting, and wouldn't be really bad and drag down the original.

I don't know who would win in the end, that really brings us back to the original queastion, because Wonka is obviously the first to die.
And Edward did get pretty destructive when he was all jealous from haveing seen Kim kiss Jim, and while he didn't kill him at the mansion, I'm pretty sure he was going to, but then I haven't seen that movie in a while.
[Edit: also why would a girl named Kim date a guy named Jim? I mean Kim and Jim just sounds so weird when you say it]

This is blasphemy. Johnny Depp IS Captain ( ) Jack Sparrow, there is no other option here. Even the IDEA for another option doesn't exist!

The inventor was probably into Pirate lore so he based some of specs on Jack Sparrow, he probably intended to add the beard and gold teeth later or something.
Hmmm, robot that looks like a human, doesn't age but does grow human skin, was Edward Scissorhands the first terminator?

I want one of those shirts, I looked at that slogan for a few minute and at first all I could think was the joke is to make people think something must be spelled wrong when it isn't, it took me another couple minute to catch "untie" in the post.

I love that movie! I still love Pirates, too, though. Edward wouldn't fight Jack Sparrow. He only fought for loved ones and I can't really see Jack Sparrow gaining anything from that yuppie family.
Its hard to say who I prefer. Edward is gothically lovable -- quiet, tragic, innocent... Jack is bombastically bad but good-hearted. Both very dynamic characters. *swoons over Johnny Depp*
Edit: way too many thoughs. I'm tired this morning!
Though I loved Edward Scissorhands, and Depp played him excellently **swoon** I think I'd have to go with Captain Jack Sparrow, because Depp's performance of the character was not only excellent, you could tell that he liked playing him. He actually still has the gold teeth in place.
Ahh...Johnny Depp **swoons again**
Neither would win--because neither would fight each other. Jack wouldn't fight Ed because there's no profit and Ed wouldn't fight Jack because he wasn't provoked.

Cap'n Jack seemed like a cross between the lead singer for Ratt and the villain swordmaster in Rob Roy putting on his foppish-fool 'em all act.
I was never quite sure if they intended the movie to be a comedy, action, horror . . . I'm not sure I even liked the movie, although it was nice to see Orlando act with feeling. Some. A bit. Looks good in brown hair, too. Hmmm.
I'll have to cogitate on it for a while.
*Wanders off to ponder*
