So check this out. Your own personal NS-5 domestic assistant. I didn't think this was for real at first. It was advertised in the movie theater and I thought maybe it was some movie coming out. But you can really buy one of these things this July. Of course, who knows what one of these things will cost
Is anyone else suddenly having flashbacks to A.I. or Bicentennial Man? What do you guys think?

Shia LaBeouf! It's worth it just for him. Has anyone seen "The battle of Shaker Heights"? It's the second(?) Project Greenlight movie. Not the best movie ever, but some great writing and acting. LaBeouf is amazing. So do I go ahead and read the book first or stick with my "see the movie first so I'm not disappointed because it's different from the book" mentality?

I, Robot was one of the first pieces of Science Fiction I ever read. It holds a nice little niche in my heart for that reason. I can remember writing an alternate ending for one of Asimov's short stories for my 8th grade lit class. It was one of the first times I'd ever attempted writing SF.
They better do this movie right.
I agree about Shia. He is a very talented actor.

Most of the people in the theatre in which I saw this preview didn't get the fact that it was actually a trailer. I, on the other hand, was sitting with my jaw hitting the floor, thinking "Dear God, I hope this turns out alright."
Edit to add: It was the "3 Laws" thing that gave it away, Marlozahn, and I've not even read the books

This reminds me of the stupid newscast the TV stations did just before Independence Day came out, acting as though the world was actually being invaded by aliens.

You know, before The Ring came out, they had a whole bunch of fake websites put up about the "technovirus" and "Have you seen my friend? She watched this tape..."
Then the videotapes started showing up at colleges.
It was strange. And probably would've scared the crap out of me, if Streetwise hadn't already sent me four tapes and some "Have you seen my friend?" flyers. Which I never handed out.

The ad campaign for A.I. was also rather innovative. There was a whole game, set up using a series of websites which gave clues to find or unlock other websites. There were also emails that you could sign up to get, which were necessary to solve the puzzle, and a phone number that you had to call to get some clues. There was also a clue in the ending credits of the movie. It took people from all over the country, working through message boards and Yahoo groups, to solve it.
From what I could tell, the game had a more intriguing plot than the movie.

So, I was thinking that I wanted to re-read The Iliad (and by re-read, I mean finally get off my butt and actually read it instead of skimming it so I could finish writing my paper for my Classical Mythology class) before Troy came out (in May, right?), and now I feel like I should read I, Robot before July (although, really, I should read it even if I don't see the movie). But reading the book almost always spoils the movie for me because the movie is almost invariably not as good, and these days I'm starting to think that there is some value to being able to judge a movie solely on its own merits, without comparing it to what it was based on.

If you were to go see ROTK again, pay attention at the end of the trailer. The outro shot includes the name of the production company that is making the movie. For the life of me I can't remember which company it is.
It's all designed to create hype. Don't get your hopes up too much.
