Just a quick little story and a ?moral? question. I just had my car die on me a little while ago . The problem was unrepairable, so i was forced to look for a new car. Being a college student I couldn't afford a very pricey car, so i looked around a bit. After some searching i found that an employee at my mom's work was selling her car, a 2000 Alero GL coupe . It was very well kept and i liked the stlye. I talked her down to $6,500, which i thought was a reasonable price. Her (the woman i'm buying from) is engaged, and her soon to be husband works at a car dealer and gets a free car to drive around, they recently also bought an Aztec. I just got the loan approved, and am getting insurance for car tomorrow. I just found out yesterday, that she is still driving the car to work. The car still has 10,000 miles left on the warranty and is good till 2005. Granted I probly won't drive 10,000 miles in less than a year, but you never know. My question is, with 2 other cars that they can use, should they really be using my "soon to be car"? She lives at least 30 miles away from work, and to me that just seems kinda wrong . I was just hoping for a few opinions on the subject. I'll hopefully have the car by next tuesday, but lord knows where they'll drive it over the weekend. If anyone has an idea on something i could "politely" say to them i would most appreciate it.

Sweetie, it's theirs till it's yours, unless you specified a mileage. It makes a lot of sense for them to drive that car; you're taking it "as is.", right? Just get it as fast as you can.

true...very true. I am taking it "as is". However, they do have 2 other cars, so why would it make sense to drive the one they are going to be selling in a few days? It's not like they have to advertise it, it's older than the other 2 cars they have. it just seems wrong to me to drive a car 60+ miles a day when you have pretty much sold it already. I'm asking for the morals of the situation. would i be wrong in asking them to stop? are they wrong in driving the car, when they have 2 others? is it morally wrong for me to want the most miles left on the warranty. or am i freaking out over nothing?

Unless they said they would not, there is nothing wrong with it. Not a nice thing to do, but not wrong either.

I'm sure that they just want to get the maximum use out of it before they hand it over to you. If they have kept it in good shape for this long, chances are they are continuing to keep it in good shape, just driving it a little more. Unless they promised you a certain mileage on it, it's their prerogative to continue to use it (no matter how many other cars they have). It's not really your business yet. Of course, if they hand it over to you in a less than satisfactory condition (and it seems that you are getting a very nice car for the price!), you have reason to get angry. Somehow I doubt that will be the case. You have to choose whether or not you want to expend the energy being mad about something you can't protest legally (and are unsure about morally). Let them get their extra miles, is my advice. In the long run, it will matter very little.
