Leaving aside the effects of the causitive effects of their extermination on humans, if all the tigers in the world disappeared tomorrow,it would not impact humans or the rest of the world in the least. Therefore, tigers do not matter.

The disappearance of humans wouldn't impact other species either. In fact, they would probably be more happy we weren't around to kill them.

Let's keep the discussion focused on tigers. To make things simple, let's say that all the tigers in the world suddenly disappear. Nothing else is harmed.

Storm, what leads you to that conclusion from that BBC article?

This is a personal opinion? I expected that you would have linked an article supporting your postition on this.

I am so disillusioned....

well, keeping the conversation focused on tigers .... they're fun to look at. they provide hours of entertainment for little kids who like seeing animals locked in small cages and taken away from their natural habitat. i say, keep them around. [Razz]

It may or may not be my personal opinion, eslaine.

But the article didn't support the position.

I expected an insightful, data and chart filled document that proved that tigers really don't matter, a point, I might add, that I was willing to believe and accept should it prove to be true.

You are slipping.

O.K. Before we start throwing around accusations of me slipping (because, let's face it, I never have had a very firm grip on anything, now have I? [Smile] ), I'm just using the article as a jumping off point for a statement that I'm using to explore the issue.

The article is offensive and jingoistic. I will post a long diatribe against its hate-mongering in a day or two, when I have time, and when I have calmed down.

But what about the powerful curative powers of powdered tiger claw and the aphrodisiac that only tiger testicles can provide?

Considering we're talking about powdered tiger testes I don't blame him for not drawing attention to himself.
