The manuver, ever after known as "The Celia Manuver," has been tried numerous times in my experience with Mafia, but tonight Celia managed to pull it off and make Mafia history [Smile] .

Just thought those of you watching might be interested. Although as a submod it is my duty to remain impartial, I thought Celia played a pretty darn cool game. It was, however, anyone's game pretty much 'til the bitter, bloodly end, and each team certainly made things interesting.

[Hat] to Celia

[Hat] to everyone for making this fun.

I just can't believe that nobody suspected her for the entire game. Seriously!

I don't think it was that nobody suspected her. It was that too many people who knew, agreed to not vote for her, and the voting block followed that lead, and too many townies were lost searching for the final mafia. If we'd simply chosen Shriley instead of Sophie, it would have been just enough and Celia would have lost.

Either way, great job Celia! [Hail] and [Wall Bash]

By the time people knew who the serial killer was, it was too late. Oh well. At least it wasn't my fault that the townies lost.

But I'm still happier about an SK win than I would be about a mafia win.

After Zan sent his E-mail to CT saying that he "knew" she was the serial killer and wanted an alliance, I told her -- too late, sadly -- that this almost certainly meant he was the Godfather.

Why? Because no really intelligent townie would ever want to ally with the serial killer, because this produces the best possible environment for the serial killer. Ergo, if someone intelligent contacts the serial killer asking for an alliance, that person is almost certainly mafia -- regardless of what they say. And since it's likely that someone would figure that out, that person would almost certainly be the godfather, so that if the contact was reported, they'd "check out" when the sheriff tried.

It never occurred to me for a moment that townies would choose to work for the serial killer. Why? Because the townies don't have a problem killing off people; they've got enough total kills to win the game easily. They don't NEED a serial killer, in other words. What the townies need is the ability to ID people, and the serial killer can't give that to them; at best, the serial killer will give them a few extra lucky kills.

But the problem here is that any clever and competent serial killer -- like Celia -- will be working both sides at this point, and will almost certainly manage to be one of the final four as long as she can arrange to have the major townie roles AND anyone who knows her ID for sure killed by that point.

So it's NEVER a good idea for the townies to work with the serial killer; it's a much better idea for the townies to kill her IMMEDIATELY, once she's uncovered.

(By contrast, it's often advantageous for the mafia to work with the serial killer, which makes it a good idea for the serial killer to betray the mafia as early as possible.)

I'm just glad I was a mod as opposed to player, being so close to her and all... [Wink]

Seriously, I'm impressed Celia, maybe now I'll like you enough to finally let you watch Pi. [Wink]

Good game. [Hat]

I thought, being new, CT might really think I was a townie encouraging her to keep killing mafia. I even threatened to go public with all the evidence I had and get her lynched if she didn't keep killing suspected mafia, which at that time, were none of the real mafia. Sorry again, CT. If I wrote you the sonnet you asked for, though, I think it might damage your psyche.

The thing is, celia told me she killed me off something completely unrelated to that. And she knew all about the letter.

Sorry fellow mafia players. I'm not too good at this game, because I can't seem to come to grips with the #1 rule of mafia. celia can't ever, ever, ever be trusted, and in my case, she will be responsible for your death every chance she gets.

I still don't know how knowing Jon Boy was going to get killed would have meant he was the sherriff. Or why it would matter that we knew he was gettting killed which we didn't because Pat didn't know he was getting killed until we told him he was getting killed.

Pat didn't know you were getting killed until we asked for you to be killed.

Later, he hints you may be killed.

And he is worried that I may have seen that you were getting killed, when I was the one who asked for us to kill you.

Besides which I don't understand why this means you were the sherriff.

Is that better or worse?

Well, if it's any comfort, Ryuko, your mafia family kept hunting her. It's why most of us died.

I think Pat was talking about you suspecting Ruth of being the doctor if she got a hint about Jon Boy dying on the 'rack and decided to change her save.

I don't get it. He left my attempted save in, which gave the mafia the clue that I was the doctor just as much as a true save would have. [Confused]

I had not seen this thread before. Thanks, everyone! [Cool]

Zan, the clue was the justification I used to Ashley and the thing I threw around behind your back to half a dozen people so it'd look like the sk was on the townies' side. I really had no idea nor did I care what side you were on. The appearance was more important than the reality. I was wondering, when you started down the path to find the sk. I had just pulled that same trick on you the game before, and thought surely you wouldn't try it on me, not in the very next game.

Tom, I'm so glad I haven't had to play against you. Seriously, I'm an idiot in wolf's clothing, and you'd never let me get away with anything.

*glows*

You're definitely not an idiot, celia. [Smile] As far as I can tell, having read through this last session, you played as close to a perfect game as it's possible to play without actually being omniscient. *grin* The serial killer's probably the hardest role to "win" -- although I've got to say it seems like both the mafia AND the townies were bending over backwards to help you. *laugh*

Oh, I was trying to kill her. I just couldn't figure out who she was. We thought mup was the doctor until the third day. Anyway, it turned out to be a really interesting game. I have to echo Jon Boy, that as long as the townies didn't win I was happy. [Smile]
