Well, duh, they're carrying two six packs of propel, two four packs of crystal light bottles, and miscellanous other groceries. Four bags, not "heavy" and I'm quite capable of lifting significantly more than what I WAS carrying.

But some guy (mid thirties to mid forties) decided that he needed to look at the bags, me, bags, me again, and make that stupid comment.

It could be worse. At least he made the comment after looking at the grocery bags. [Smile]

Oh, and while we're talking about bottles, did you know Sasparilla is $3.49 for 4 bottles? What a flippin' rip-off!

Let's hope he was referring to the groceries.

[Blushing]

Sorry.

I remember a Jack Handey quote which involved escaping chores with the excuse, "Sorry, got these sacks."

How relevant is that?

Heh. That happens to me often (about groceries, etc. - NOT about *those*).

Most recent episode: Changing the water bottle in the cooler at work. The bottle which is roughly the size of my torso. Tall male coworker comes around the corner as I'm taking the empty bottle out of the cooler, and says, "Oh, let me help you with that!" I have to say, "No, it's okay, I do this all the time!"

And the silly part is that part of my job description involves a lot of lifting and shifting of boxes of files, and lugging them around the office. And no one ever offers to help with those....

I may be short, but I wouldn't be trying to carry something that was really too heavy....

Most men like to be asked to help, makes up feel good about ourselves to be honest. My mom used to always ask me to open up jars etc. when I got older. Always made me feel special. Its one of those things I think we pick up as being little boys. Though he should have honestly just offered to pick up the bags for you.

I have absolutely no problem with the guy's comment. I think it's a perfectly reasonable thing for anyone (of either gender) to make to anyone carrying something that looks heavy.

IF AND ONLY IF it is then followed by, " [Smile] Would you like a hand?" Assistance should then cheerfully be given if wanted, or cheerfully not given if not wanted.

Failing that addition, the correct response from the person on the receiving end of the comment might be something like, "Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't noticed."

I think mack might have a more succinct way of putting that. [Big Grin]
