Does your name have any Japanese roots?

Well, actually it comes from the fact that it's my initials. Anne Kate Ard. But simultaneously, I like self-referential things, and it's a pseudonym that means alias, which I also enjoyed. After the fact, Pod (who studies Japanese) started calling me something Akai, which apparently meant "Miss Red", because of the fact that my brother is sometimes called Fish Dot Red, which is a Chinese/English pun based on the syllables of his name in English sounding similar to the words for fish, dot, and red in Chinese.

So the short answer is, no. [Smile]

ok, nice to know.

I was just sitting talking to my spouse (who happens to have a Masters in Japanese History), and the word "aka" was used.

In the context we were talking about it, aka meant red. More to the point, using aka, if not being specific to color, is akin to saying you sympathize with or believe in communism.

I was just curious if your name was a political statement. Thanks for answering.

For the record, my wife's initials, before we married, were AKA and I used to have the yahooID akalvr, for AKA Lover. [Smile]

I always think threads like this have something to do with me when I first glance at them.

aka is descended from the ancient Tang family-- noted in the Okahira Histories for their use of their toes when building their pagodas.

My mother is a communist in the idealistic sense. She believes in "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need". I thought she and Fidel were the last two left. But one of my other friends just read a book about Joseph Stalin and apparently he admires him and so he's a communist now too, or has leanings in that direction. I believe in democracy and capitalism, myself. There may be a better system possible, I suspect, but so far humanity hasn't found it yet.

I think all LDS are communists in the sense that we believe the law of consecration (which is essentially communism) is a higher law than the law of tithing which we follow now. We aren't good enough and holy enough at this time for the law of consecration, apparently, but at other times and places, it has been in effect and will be again. This ideology is so religious that I don't think it has any political ramifications at all. I think if and when we again live the law of consecration, it will spontaneously come into being, will not be coercive of anyone not wanting to participate, but will be based on unanimous consent of the entire body of people so governed, who will act with one heart on all matters.

Oh, and I do claim kinship with all those who build things with their toes. I think shoes are evil encumberances of Angmar. Free hobbit children need none. [Smile]

I was always taught (I can not provide a link to verify if it is true or not) that tithing is preparatory to the law of consecration, which will be practiced in Christ's millennial reign and in the Celestial Kingdom.

My question is based in that the law of consecration only makes sense to me in a world of scarcity. In the millennium and the Celestial Kingdom will there be scarcity? Will there be "wants" or "needs" that need some sort of currency to satisfy?

scarcity of good men? :ducks tomatoes: Seriously, though there are 12 divorced mothers in my in-laws ward who have moved back in with their parents. I don't know if it was something about the value system in that neighborhood or men succumbing to pornography/adultery. I know of one case that was drug addiction. Maybe these were "starter marriages" except being Mormon, they have kids.

P.S. I don't believe in man hating, I'm talking about a material symptom. I believe the man hating came before this epidemic, and should not be the consequence of it.

Once again, folks, don't confuse the Law of Consecration with the United Order. The Law of Consecration has never been revoked, and members of the Church are still under covenant to live it. The United Order, however, is/was a temporal program or organization for the coordination of the members' practice of the Law. It is not longer in operation. Something like it may be insituted again someday, or not.

Out of all the divorcees I know, the most common reason has been the wife. With more financial and sexual freedom for women, I see more men trying to settle down and be homebodies, and it seems more women are tending to act like horny teenagers.

I guess I can see how we will need to consecrate our talents in the afterlife.
