50 year old high school chemist teacher discovers he has cancer, for various reasons he decides that the most productive use of his time is to produce crystal meth to leave money behind for his family, so he has to team up with druggie drug dealer "not up all there" partner and deal with the criminal underworld while avoiding suspicion from his DEA agent half brother.

I'm getting serious Death Note vibes from this show, its very interesting. Its also kinda like Lord of War in the way you look at it from the point of view of the typical 'villain' character (weapons dealer in LoW, Drug cooker/dealer here).

Three seasons so far, pretty good.

Breaking Bad is one of the best shows being made. The character development is breathtaking, at times heart breaking, but always accessible and real feeling.

Never saw Death Note, but I like Breaking Bad a billion times more then I liked Lord of War.

Oh, and the DEA agent is his brother in law, not half brother.

Yeah, it's great. And its pretty funny sometimes.

And it is kind of like Dexter, with a dimension of the show involving hiding what hes doing from his family and a lot of awkward drama with him and his wife. And he actually starts off more likeable because of his original motives, but hes gradually getting more lost in it.

(its from the guy who wrote x files)

Breaking Bad is in my opinion the most well-written television program in history- at least of major networks. It's a show that is entirely driven by the characters- particularly Walt. The whole show could basically be called "Walt's Fault".

It has some the absolute best cinematography I've ever seen on the small screen (if not the best).

Yeah, arguably.

The Shield is better directed though.

I dunno. I watched the first episode and it didn't really grab me, but I was coming off the greatness of The Wire and Damages.

The guy in the wheel chair is one smug bastard.

Its amazing how a paralyzed man can utterly lose ALL sympathy points through sheer smug.

e: HA! Kudos to the guy for sticking to his principles.

Hmm, are you really not supposed to use both feet on the car peddles?

If you have no clutch pedal, you only use one foot on the car peddles. If you have a clutch pedal, one foot works the clutch, and one foot works the other two peddles.

Breaking Bad is better than Damages, but not The Wire.

The Shield is best.

I've seen the first three seasons of The Shield, and I agree that it's quite good, but it hasn't reached the level of The Wire for me. I'm going to watch the rest of it, though, and everything I've heard says it continues to get better and better.

This show sounds a lot like Weeds.

Woman doesn't have money to support her family, starts selling weed, gets married to a DEA agent, gets involved with some shady people, etc.

Is this just a copy or is it truly worth watching? And when does it come on?

Is it on Hulu or Netflix? The wife and I do not have a TV subscription since we can pretty much watch everything we want by streaming to our television from one of the 10,000 devices we have at home. A laptop + HDMI cable works too. [Smile]

I watch both shows, and the similarities are superficial only. That's like comparing "Scrubs" and "ER". Both have hospitals, doctor's date each-other, etc. The tones of the two shows are miles apart.

ER wasn't a comedy? I remember one episode when a doctor that was being sort of a jerk had his arm chopped off by a helicopter blade. I laughed, but I thought I was supposed to. [Razz]
