I'm thinking about buying a used personal water craft, aka jet ski. Anybody have any good ways of getting a good one for pretty cheap?

You could go cruise the local emergency rooms for people who injured themselves on one and might be willing to sell.
(Although that probably works better with the types of vehicles Ozzie Osbourne got himself banged up in. And even then, it's probably the wife that would be selling while the husband is in physical therapy.)

You might see if a local marina rents them out and sells off their old stock? I have no idea if they do this or not, or even if it would be a good deal, but its worth a try.

You used to waterski? Awesome! Slalom or double? I can slalom pretty good, but I stopped for a while after my suit got blown off by the water. Now I wakeboard major kamikaze style.
But that takes a boat and 3 people. I want something I can do myself you know?

Heh. Well, granted, I get crazy on them when it's responsible to do so.
But yes, unfortunately, people drive CA waterways as if they own them. Them and their brand new stupid brand new MasterCraft X-stars with giant speakers mounted on tower...
That would be my dream boat, that.
My dad has a 97 prostar 205, but thats terrible for wakeboarding. The wake is just too small.

Tubing is a lot of fun, but I don't have the guts to take everything my uncle dishes out when he's behind the wheel of the boat. My little brother, though, is crazy when riding a tube. You hit a wake at just the right speed, and the thing flies.Posts: 4089 | Registered: Apr 2003

"You hit a wake at just the right speed, and the thing flies." Try hitting the water at that speed! I've taken some good spills in my day. *grin*
Yeah, I had a boat all while growing up and my dad sold it when I went to college. He still doesn't quite forgive me. I did both slalom and double, but it would take a bit for me to be able to slalom again. The muscles required are really amazing. My legs would always feel like jelly for the first week or so of the season.

Well, I got my 94 kawasaki 750 SS Jet Ski dirt cheap. A friends uncle had trashed his so he gave it to me since I said I would fix it up.
I'd look around, find someone who has one that was damaged (hull problems) and pick ont up for a song. The hulls are easy to repair with a little effort. Just make sure that the engine is good to go unless you happen to be/know a decent mechanic. I think all told I paid about $200 for parts and put in maybe 15 days of work on it.
