I've just got back from Parliament Hill, where the sunny morning went very well with the soldiers will big furry hats marching around, PM Paul Martin, the Heritage Minister and Adrienne Clarkson giving rowsing speeches to what appeared to be a very appreciative crowd and a good concert of very mixed music. I wandered off to take pictures of the river and the locks before returning to the Parliament Buildings to try and catch the PM's motorcade as it drove by.
I wandered all over Ottawa, not really doing anything except for taking pictures and listening to the music and street-acts all over the place.
A few distant rolls of thunder sent those on the hill scurrying for shelter, but I headed back up towards the hill in time to get caught in an extremely heavy rain shower/thunderstorm/ hail storm. I squeezed against a wall covering my bag with my legs and using a piece of cardboard that I caught as it blew past as a roof (it worked very well- cardboard effectively keeps off the rain!) Soaked, I dried off a little around the eternal flame (which of course hadn't gone out even in such a deluge) and then wandered around watching those with cameras wipe off the lenses and take pictures of the teenagers frolicking in the puddles of water all over the grass.
I bought so poutine and was five minutes early for my rendezvous with my parents. All in all it was a very good day!
What have you done this Canada Day?
