19 years since 1985 (when the movie was first based), and 11 years to go till we hit 2015 (when back to the future pt. 2 took place).

Don't hold your breath. Khan Noonien Singh (sp?) was supposed to have been shipped out into space in 1993, and he still hasn't popped up.

Are there any other expectations about the future that let you down from movies or books? Or predictions that came true?

I first started reading SF in the late 70s. Lots of books written then would depict future catastrophes (nuclear, environmental, war, etc.) as happening in the 80s, 90s, etc.... and so after we made it to the 80s and 90s and no nuclear war happened, that gave me an eerie feeling sometime, of having dodged a bullet...
Of course, after reading the Man Who Saved the World thread, it's easy to see that we really have been lucky to miss out on nuclear war...

Growing up, I read a kids' book about kids on a base on the moon, or maybe it was Mars... so I expected that by now -- spaceships flying all over the place...
Solar power started to get popular in the 70s, so I expected more stuff to happen with solar power and alternative power by now... also that cars would be more fuel-efficient, and that there'd be more monorails and other cool public transport by now (that's thanks to a trip to Disneyworld).
Oh yeah: and the 9th -- and final -- "Star Wars" film would be released by 2001

I still haven't found a wardrobe that opens into a snowy wood yet...but I suppose that isn't really a futuristic development, even if it is a hope
