Has anyone else received an email about a class action suit filed in California against PayPal? Apparently, they've claimed that PayPal's policies don't jive with an electronic funds transfer law from the 70s. Anyone who's opened a PayPal account in the past five years is eligible to file a claim for a piece of the 9.25 million.
Anyway, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that my experiences with PayPal have never been anything other than pleasant. I'm thinking that it would be morally reprehensible for me to claim a part of the settlement when I've never had a problem with the service.
What do you think?

Snopes and current news verify it's true. And the same amount is being paid -- just that if you don't request a cut then you don't get one. Bigger cuts to people who did have problems, from what I read.

I got that email too. I believe the settlement has something to do with the fact that PayPal allegedly didn't give proper information about dispute settlement. So I guess anyone who signed up with them in theory was harmed. I'm not sure I'll do anything about it either. I think I've used PayPal 3 whole times.

Also used 3 times, and all three because of Hatrack -- Endercon tickets, ordering An Open Book, and Cubs tickets for Kamacon. *smile*

The reason for the lawsuit is because Paypal has been doing things that techincally only banks and other financial institutions can, including their very aggressive fraud investigation policy; which is "remove money from the bank account of the person under investigation without warning until the investigation is over next quarter." To put it simply, Paypal has to figure out what it is. Satyagraha
