I have a house....well, my parents do....in MI, and I don't want to take my DVD collection there next year. I let my mom borrow 5 DVD's, and she left them there by accident. She offered to replace them, but I want to make sure it doesn't happen again.
And I scratched my copy of FIFA 2003, and had to buy another copy, so I figure I can copy my other 10 games and avoid it happeneing again.

Sorry, but you better get started writing your congressmen. They suspended the "right" to make backup copies of DVDs and PS2 games a few years ago.

Well, there are still programs out there that do it, and as I am not going to sell any copies, only use them for personal use in my own home, I doubt I will get in trouble for it.

just figured I would mention that your PS2 needs to have a mod chip to be able to run "backup" games. Without a modchip, they won't load up.
as for DVDs DVD shrink is likely your best option. DVDXCopy got sued out of existance. Legally they were actually holding their own in the lawsuits...but the lawyers took up all their money and they folded.

Last time I checked, if you were going to try to play backed up PS2 games, you had to have a mod chip to do so.
As far as DVD Shrink go - what part exactly is running slow? Encoding is influenced mainly by your processor and the amount of compression needed to fit it to a DVD-R.
For example, my desktop can encode and burn a rather small DVD (one that was less than 4.7 gigs on the original) in maybe 30 minutes (15 encoding, 15 burning). If my desktop has to encode it, you can tack on another 30 minutes to encoding.
Encoding on my laptop is usually 90 minutes to encode a DVD (30-45 minutes if no compression is needed).
If it's not the encoding part, what speed do you have DVD Shrink set to burn to? 4x is usually 15 minutes, 2x is 30 minutes, 1x is 60 minutes. If you're unable to burn faster than 2x, you're going to be stuck with 30 minute burn times no matter what.

Well, I guess it's not really that slow then. I have never done any of this so I wasn't sure if it was taking too long or not....it just seemed slow to me.
I have my DVD-RW set at max speed, which I believe is x4, and it is taking about 30-50 min to encode and burn copies of DVDs. Pretty close to the full DVD too, with only some audio taken out.
It took me a bit to figure out how to burn with it, but now I think I have it.
Once I get the mod chip installed, I just burn the games like they were DVDs, right? Or do I need a specific program to do it?

Well, I have been playing around with the programs I mentioned, the DVD Decrypter and DVDShrink, and am finally getting the hang of it.
I plan on having the local VG company modify my PS2, and then I will try to copy my disks. I will also try one of those machines to recover my FIFA disk that was scratched.
Can I record my PS2 games with a DVD-RW using one of these programs, or do I need a specific program to do it?
