...can I keep my shirt tucked in?

Seriously. This bugs me to no end. I know lots of guys who don't have this problem, and I'm trying to figure out the secret. My shirt comes out of my pants at work all the time, and I feel like such a slob when I'm working with guests and my shirt tail is hanging off my belt.

Advice? Mrs. M? Somebody?

Hmm, well, not to put to fine a point on this but when I lose weight I have less difficulty keeping my shirt tucked in.

Don't they make cool little straps that attach the bottom of your shirt to the tops of your socks? Let me know if they do - I'll go get some too.

Well, PC, there are some little doo-dads that little kids have. They are like suspenders, and clip onto both sides of the shirt. Might give you a bit of a wedgie, though.

Also, you could tuck into your undies. That might pose a whole series of different problems, however.

They do make sock garters, but I don't think that'd help. They just wrap around your calf they don't attach to shirt.

I guess I do just have my love handles to blame. Damn them for being the last thing to go. I've lost 25 lbs in the last month or so. Why shouldn't they be gone by now?

Depends on how much weight you have to lose.

Congrats on the 25 though.

You might consider using a bit of tape to fix the shirt to your outer thigh. Otherwise, some tape between the shirt and the pants might have the desired result.

Tape? Tape?

Somehow I find that... short of my needs.

That and... leg hair. Owie.

The problem is I don't know of a more formal solution short of a girdle.

Attach the shirt to the pants - inside the pant and outside the shirt and that _may_ help, but probably not as much as you'd like.

To keep your shirts tucked in, you have to get shirts that are longer than the ones you are wearing now. I'm not being sarcastic.

That could be another complication - I've found if my job requires a great deal of bending or stretching, I can forget about keeping a shirt tucked in.

You might head to a clothing store and ask for advice - they might know of a trick to help.

If you are 6'4" you definitely need to be buying shirts that say "Tall" on the tag. Trust me, I know. I am married to a man about your height.

I wish Bonduca's Jeff (Geoffrey?) was here. He'd know the answer.

My questions are:

1) Are you required to wear dress shirts or can you wear polo shirts or something other than a dress shirt?

2) Are you buying shirts made to be tucked in or are they all square at the bottom of the back?

3) Are you wearing your pants low?

I don't think tucking into your undies is going to help much. If what I think is going on, you'll just end up with your underwear poking out above your waistband and the shirt still tucked in. Wont that be loverly?

I tend to think that switching to "tall man" shirts is going to be your best bet.

You might try pants that have a larger waist and keeping your belt a bit looser, but hiking your pants way up past your navel. You'll look like an old Italian man, but what the heck, it'll be fun!

Depending on how much money you want to spend, you might try a "big and tall" shop.

Or try special ordering your shirts online.

In my experience, big and tall clothing is about 10 years behind fashion trends from ten years ago.

True - but you're not looking for cutting edge fashion, are you?

Light blue, Oxford button shirt - large enough to fit you comfortably.

That's a pretty basic staple in fashion, ten years ago to now.

The online shop should have a picture of the prospective shirt and if you walk into a brick-and-mortar store, you certainly aren't required to buy anything.

Seems like you have your assets covered either way.

By all means whine as much as you like - I just didn't feel the need to call you on it.

And I was too tired to type my usual response to such self-indulgent whining. It's the same one I give my buddy when he starts yelping about how his back hurts because he had too much sex the night before. [Taunt]

I am a men's clothing specialist (oooohhh, fancy name for suit sales) for JC Penny here in MA.

Look in their catalog, or go to here; What you need is a tall athletic-cut shirt, and that web site and catalog are a good place to get them.

Most stores don't carry them because they are a waste of needed space. They don't sell as well as the regular shirts, so now you have to order them.

That would be my suggestion if you are 6' or taller.

Also, depends on what kinds of pants you wear. If you are wearing Dockers or other casual pants you just have to deal with it....they don't hold well.

But is you want dress pants, try finding some with a wide Ban-Roll waist, that has pants grippers on them. They don't roll over when you sit, which is one of the reasons that your shirts are pulling out (probably), and the waist has ridges in it so that it grips the shirt, making it more likley to stay tucked in.

Oh, and for the record, they do make garters to hold your shirt down. They are usually elastic "Y" shaped straps with clips on the end. The top of the "Y" clips to the front and back of one side of your shirt-tail (use another for the other side), and the bottom clips to the outside/top of your socks.

We used them in the military, but I'm sure you could buy a pair at a men's dress-clothes store or maybe in a military surplus store. (Though I'll be very surprised if they are so rare as to need to hunt in surplus stores for them).
