I've been in training for "around the bay in a day" in Melbourne, a 12 hour "race" around Port Melbourne. It's a distance of about 210kms. I recently had my bike adjusted, and have run into some problems. Before, I used to just get a really sore ass and lower back on long rides. Last week I wound up with an outrageously painful coccyx after only 70-odd kms...
Does anyone have any good resources on bike setup and positioning to help me eliminate this problem?

I can only offer sympathy. My back isn't flexible enough or my tummy is too fat, but it seems that my arms don't reach all the way to my handlebars with ease.

I know nothing about bikes but should you be able to raise the handlebars to a level where you are not leaning uncomfortably on them?

Part of it is adujstment, and that is more tinkering around than anything to find out what is most comfortable for you.
I'd seriously look at getting a more ergonomic seat though. The cocyx is the tailbone right. You shouldn't be sitting that much on the seat itself to begin with but like with horsebackriding you should be distributing your weight evenly across your feet and your seat. (Maybe not quite as much weight in the pedals as feet in horse stirupps but close.) It is easy to get lazy and not do this, but it is better for your butt and the rest of your body in the long run.
