So my birthday is coming up, and I've decided to go to Foxwoods this Saturday to celebrate (any Jatraqueros are invited of course). I expect to lose my bankroll, but hopefully have fun and learn while doing it [Smile] I'm going to be playing basic hands, top 10, maybe 15, 2-4 limit tables.

So here is what I need to know: all the little casino poker room ettiquette to keep me from looking from an idiot, before I play a hand [Smile]

-How do the waiting lists work? Do you need to hang around, do they give you a buzzer?

-I'm showing up noonish; how busy will the room be? Will 2-4 still be a viable option?

-At Foxwoods, do you need to post a blind when you first sit at the table?

-When, and how much, should I tip the dealer?

-How much is the rake at Foxwoods low-limit poker tables?

-Any other pointers, suggestions, good luck wishes would be appreciated.

-Could Richard Berg _not_ sit down at a table with me this weekend? I'd like to have a slim chance to make some money this weekend [Big Grin]

-How do the waiting lists work? Do you need to hang around, do they give you a buzzer?

They don't give you a buzzer, so if you're going to leave, make sure you don't stay away long. You give them your initials(or a first name if it's really short) and they announce it when you're up. 2-4 usually moves pretty quickly.

-I'm showing up noonish; how busy will the room be? Will 2-4 still be a viable option?

2-4 is always a viable option. you should be fine. You might even make it in time to play in a tournament! j/k.

-At Foxwoods, do you need to post a blind when you first sit at the table?

What happens is when you first sit at the table you have the option of posting the big blind right away and starting playing. Or you can wait till the big blind naturally will come around to you, and then when you're up, post the big blind and begin playing. All depends on how eager you are to play.

-When, and how much, should I tip the dealer?

On a lower stakes table like that i usually tip the dealer a dollar, when i win a decent hand. If i win a smaller hand(under $10, mostly my money) I will probably only tip 50 cents.

-How much is the rake at Foxwoods low-limit poker tables?

I think the rake is the same no matter what the stakes. It's either 4 or 5% of the pot(or maybe 1/15th of the pot, soemthing like that) and it caps at a certain amount. Maybe $4 or $5 or so(on the low limit tables).

-Any other pointers, suggestions, good luck wishes would be appreciated.

Refrain from going big on the first hand! It's SOOOO tempting. If you're a drinker, don't drink too much at the table. Makes you do silly things. [Smile] There are a lot of stupid people at the casino, especially at the lower limit tables. They will stay in on things they shouldn't. Keep that in mind.

-Could Richard Berg _not_ sit down at a table with me this weekend? I'd like to have a slim chance to make some money this weekend

you'll have to take that up with him.

I won't say good luck, cause I never do. But play well.

Thanks for the answers (particularly tipping, I don't like being a cheap tipper)!

On my cell phone no-limit game I just lost 35k (fake) when I had pocket rockets, because the computer picked up a queen on the flop, and one more on the turn! Went in with a Q-T, stupid program. [Smile]

Doesn't bode well though [Smile]

So where's the best spot for hatrackers to play a game of Texas Hold-em? True, it's really hard to get the feel across online, but it might be a fun social time.

I'm thinking of starting to play in the med students' game. It's a $20 buy-in.

I haven't played online with real money yet; online casinos knowing my credit card number unsettles me. I'm going to see what I can do with some face-to-face play, before I venture online.

Let me know how the med student game goes Suneun [Smile]

Oh I think hatrackers should play fake money online. I'd hate to lose money to a fellow hatracker. Or win it.

dabbler, I've been playing at PartyPoker, in the free games. My username is olhado22, or something similar. I don't have internet until next week though, but check it out when you have the time.

Dan, it was dirty, but not for the reasons you think. Stupid computer...

Bok, you don't have to give them your credit card numbers. You can hook it right into your bank account. I'm sure you'd be cool with that...right?

In all seriousness though, i never understood why people have a problem giving their credit card numbers to online casinos, but are fine with the multitude of other sites on the net they use their credit card on.

adam, I have friends that have started doing that recently. Going down to AC, buying in on no-limit game for $100. They've told me there are alot of people with money in those games, that have no idea what they're doing and think it's cool to play no-limit after watching it on tv. So they do pretty well. And worst case scenario, you only lose $100. Which for a no limit table aint so bad at all.

Good luck Bok. [Wink]

My name is Leader_Board on Partypoker, put me on your buddy list and let me know when you're on. I usually play in the $25 buy-in no limit tables.

A lot of players I know set up a new online checking account specifically for their poker expenses/income. You can deposit money from your regular checking account into the online checking account, and then transfer the money into the poker room of your choice.

I know that sounds really anal, but I think it adds an extra layer of protection. It also has the benefit of helping you keep track of your winnings (you are winning right [Wink] )

I think ING Direct(http://home.ingdirect.com/) is a good online bank.

If you haven't used any bonus codes yet, use POKERCASH to get $25 additional dollars on your first deposit; or FREE100 to get 20% additional cash, up to $100. If you use my bonus codes, I get a free toaster everytime you play. [Razz] /end shameless promotion.

Well, my real fear isn't cybertheft (I've been purchasing stuff from the web (Amazon.com) since almost before anyone knew the web existed). My real problem is that, while I'm not an addictive personality type (Hatrack the exception) I don't want to become one if I can help it. And one way is to make it harder/impossible to keep transferring money.

Especially while I'm a newbie to poker.

I'll play ANY poker game, pretty much.

I generally disagree about seeing the flop 1/7 hands. I'll see the flop much more often then that, depending on how many people go in in front of me, and what the bet is. If the bet stays at the big blind, I'll go in even if 4 or 5 people are playing in front of me... you NEVER know what a good hand will turn out to be, in hold em. In the long run, betting small money to see the flop wins you more money then folding because you have a "bad hand."

Of course, this all depends on the talent you are playing against. If there are 2 people significantly better then you at your table... fold the crap. They'll be able to tell when you have crap, and put you in for more then you can afford to bet on weaker hands.
