My workplace is putting a Blue Shield proxy server in place that is designed to keep us from surfing to...well...nearly everywhere, it would seem. It may or may not block me from Hatrack. If I'm not around much for the next little while, that'll be why. Supposedly they'll be installing the thing late tonight.
I have no doubt that Noemon is being straightforward and thoroughly honest in his statement that his work might begin blocking his access tonight. I don't think he has it in him to be deliberately deceptive, even if it were just to prevent hurt feelings from his leaving. Certainly he wouldn't go out of his way to make up a lie.
He'd recently started a thread inquiring about The Well just out of curiosity, and that thread just happened to be coincident with servor issues not under his control.
I was just being facetious, and I thought it was so funny because it so blatently must be tongue-in-cheek foolin'. Didn't mean to start rumours.

With any luck this'll all amount to nothing, as far as my hatcrack habit is concerned, and I'll be back on as normal tomorrow.

[Edit for unintentional odd meanings] I was preparing to crawl under the desk and hide from shame. Impugning your good name would be the one of the last things I'd want to do.

Just for the record, the term she used was "abase". Perfectly fine word--a little tinny, maybe, but certainly not obscene. I just saw the opportunity to be kind of funny.

On first thought, the only naughty word I can think of that sounds "woody" is the last part of woodpecker. And that's because it's got "wood" right in front of it.
Of course, celia has probably spent more time thinking about things like this.

Shoot, my British coworker just flew to London for the weekend. When he gets back, I'll ask him to make crude sexual advances on me. I'll let you know my conclusions.

Well, I'm still able to get into everything, including my yahoo mail. I'm guessing the install of the proxy server didn't go as smoothly as they'd planned, and that they'll spend the weekend trying to get it in place.
Farmgirl--yeah, but with that link, if you explore it a bit, you'll find the key to every Monty Python's Flying Circus based joke anyone will ever make
Kama--Pretty much, at the moment. Here in a couple of weeks, though, I'll be starting to post from home in the evenings.

Well, sites are becoming inaccessible one after the other. Pretty much all the big webmail sites are now blocked.

Kama, I think if you dress up in snowbunny gear, lie on a frozen lake, and stretch your arms out to him, he just might have a chance.

Noemon, you really should just lie back and obey your work's policy.
It's the best, safest thing to do.
It would be silly of you to try to go to a web proxy and see if you could get yahoo mail that way, because then you'd be going against company policy. And you don't want to do that.

Hmm . . . from what I understand, Blue Coat isn't doing the actual proxying. It's the appliance that runs proxy software like Websense.
Now I'm going to be serious, where I haven't before-- be careful in what policies you choose to disregard or break, Noemon. It sucks not being able to surf at work; it sucks worse to have to surf the web for a new job.
Good luck-- don't be Anonymous.

My company uses Websense. If I worked in any other department, I wouldn't be able to Hatrack, probably. Whoo hoo! for working in PC Support -- we are "exempt" from most of these rules....

Well, I think it's been long enough since I got a report of a site being blocked that I can give a sigh of relief. Doesn't look like they're taking any of the forums away from me. My yahoo account is now useless, but you can email me at noemon at sakeriver dot com.
