I had no idea the Polar Express movie was gonna be CGI. I knew Tom Hanks was tagged onto the movie a long time ago, but really never even crossed my mind it might be animated or CGI.

They way I understand it, is that the entire movie was originally filmed in live action, and then the performances were CG'd over in order to get the 'painterly' style of the original illustrations of the book.
When it was announced, everyone said Robert Zemeckis was nuts. But we already knew that, right? That's what we love about him!

He IS nuts. The film looks like steaming crap. *shudder* But, then, y'all know how I feel about CGI that tries too hard.

The word is creepy. All of the "humans" in the clips I've seen are well past Night of the Living Dead creepy looking. And the physics-engine/program for the CGI special effects is unbelievably bad.
Well, it certainly wasn't the smartest thing I've seen all year -- but what beautiful eye candy for the Christmas-lovers. And gorgeous music, and Tom Hanks is phenomenal, even as a creepy inexplicable Hobo Ghost.
