Heh I don't even know what they taste like. Just heard the joke a long time ago...Thought I'd post...For boredom's sake.

Just want to let everyone know that not all Long Islander's drink those. In fact I've neer see anyone from LI drink one (and I am a native), although my experiance with alcoholic drinks is limited.

Speaking as one who is both the wife of a former bartender and who hates iced tea with a passion, I can say that when they're done right, they're reeeeeeeeeally good.

But unless you are a big person, i.e., over 200 lbs., please just have one. The second LI Tea is generally one too many for us short women. And yes, I speak from experience on this one.
quote:Make mine a scotch and water please. Drinks with more than two ingredients are for sorority girls.
Meanwhile, Scotch that necessitates watering down is for posers that don't have the taste or cojones to drink real Scotch.

I don't drink scotch because its macho, I drink scotch because its goooood. Also, while I can't afford really really good scotch, I generally steer away from anything in a plastic bottle. My favorite is Aberlour. The 15 year old is good, the 25 is really good. Also, relatively affordable. And I water it because I like to drink it, not sip it.

Issue 1: Long Islands. Yum! I can handle about three before I start losing it, five normally gets me done in. Not that I know, or anything. I had one in Greece at a T.G.I.Friday's (we were desperate for "American" culture), and the bartender didn't have room in the gigantic glass for either the sweet'n'sour or the Coke. That was an excellent Long Island.
Issue 2: Scotch. I don't agree with pouring liquid water into a glass, but I do agree with a Scotch on the rocks. I prefer Scotch straight up, but hey - to each their own.

Mmmm, LITs. The weird thing is about LITs is they don't taste strong to most people. Even though it has 4 powerful shots and one weak shot (Triple Sec), for some reason the blend doesn't taste alcohol-heavy. So it's the perfect drink to foist on someone (if your sleazy or a frat brother) that is inexperienced if you want to get them trashed quickly. If they drink 2-3 in an hour, drunkeness will sneak up on them and hammer them.
Wussy actor's comments reminded me of the infamous Kids in the Hall skit, "Girl Drink Drunk" where a guy gets hooked on blender drinks. It's great, the Kids at the top of their game.

Long Island Iced Teas are not a pain to mix as long as you have pour spouts on your bottles and know how to count a shot. You don't even have to be all that precise. Making a good Bloody Mary is much more difficult. Heck, even a good martini requires more care.

I remember the Girl Drink Drunk sketch. Good one. Anybody ever had a jolly rancher shot? That is a mixed drink. (well, mixed shot I guess.)
