My wife and I spent yesterday evening grouting the backsplash in our kitchen. Over the weekend we installed 4 inch slate tiles to the area between the countertop and the cabinets. This was our first attempt at any type of tile work and if I do say so myself, we did a great job. Cutting and setting the tiles wasn't too bad but the grout dried faster than I could clean it off effectively and Cheri had to pitch in so we could finish. As it was we weren't able to eat until after 8:00 PM.
Next up on the agenda is installing the new window trim and beadboard for the ceiling.

Yay! Glad you got that hard part done. Can't wait to see the photos! I can't remember what color tile you told me you were putting in there, either....

It's been about a year and I've gotten closer to finsihing the kitchen remodel, yes I'm a bit of a procrastinator. We installed a salvaged beadboard ceiling and new fan. This past weekend we installed a new hardwood (Brazilian Mesquite) floor from Bellawood. I've uploaded some pictures to Mac's site if anyone wishes to view them.
Edit to add shamefacedly that I'd forgotten to post any pics of the previous work. I've uploaded more pics to Mac's site and you can view the tile work and the new (relatively) window casings.
Also the green cabinets are going to be repainted. We aren't thrilled with the bright celery green and will be darkening them down some.

Wow! Ketchup Princess likes it, too. She pointed at the photos and said, "Dere? Dere?" (Meaning, she wants to go there!)

I think I could have used her during the layout process. I barely had enough wood to finish, the scrap left from a kitchen and two short hallways wouldn't fill a 5 gallon bucket to the halfway mark.
It was a fun project, but time consuming. I probably had 30 hours just in the installation. I was hoping I could do it over a weekend.

Hey, that's not bad! My mom put a hardwood-look laminate floor in her kitchen, and thought it would take a couple of weekends. It ended up taking 4 months of weekends because her linoleum wouldn't come out. *ick*

Carpet and linoleum removal occupied the previous weekend. We walked on old tar-paper for a week. It was a bit sticky on bare feet.

My mom's was not tar-papered in. It seemed to have been glued with some kind of un-dissolvable superglue. :|
