Smokey almost never tries to climb on laps. Bob had her pretty well trained to stay off furniture, too. She’s just very needy this week and <oof> very big.

So is this thread title going through everyone else's head to the tune of Frosty the Snowman? I know dkw did it on purpose, but I don't know if it will only work on family members, or if everyone is cursed with it.

She absolutely loves the snow. It was so funny to watch her the first day after the big fall (20 inches). She went bounding around the yard with this big grin on her face, dived head first into drifts, bounded some more, rolled around in it, and then lay down so just her head stuck up above the surface.

dkw has only herself to blame. Smokey was perfectly happy to sit on the floor near the computers nudging people's mouse hand when she wanted attention. Now...she's learned that she has to climb into Dana's lap to get sufficient attention.

“Nudging people’s mouse hand” = “putting her nose under your wrist and throwing it back with all her strength, causing your hand to flip over her head and land in ‘petting position’ on her neck.” At least with her in my lap I can actually work.
Except that I can’t see the screen.

I don't know why, but when I first saw the topic, I read it as "smoking laptop" and thought, hmm, that can't be good.

We had a dalmation that would get on the furniture. We found that if we put a stuffed animal on the floor for her to lay on it kept her off the couch. You could try this. Hope it helps.
Very cute picture by the way.
