So I'm in the Geddes Lab at CU working on a project and I clicked on the address bar and lo and behold www.hatrack.com was in there. I know it wasn't me who went there because I've never used this computer before...

So... is there someone out there who's been using the Geddes lab?

I have two friends on facebook (other than you) that go to cornell (both went to my high school) and one lists Ender's Game as one of his favorite books (the other doesn't list books, but I'm pretty sure it's there). Or I'll ask Alcon when he signs on, he'd know if either of these guys at least lurks.

Nice. It'd be cool to meet up with someone else on Hatrack who goes here. It's weird, because access to this lab is pretty limited, most people don't even know it exists.

It's also possible that your school uses roaming profiles for your network accounts, which means you're seeing your OWN address bar even though you've logged onto a different computer.

How awkward would that be? Some innocent girl trying to go to neopets.com in her computer lab, and autocomplete ends up offering nekkidazngirlies.

I don't think either of the two Bloomingtonians I know at Cornell visit Hatrack.

oh well, it was a good enough guess. Robert's Facebook says he likes Ender's Game, it was possible, and would have been funny.

Ender's Game is extremely popular amongst ubernerds at CalTech. Since Cornell enjoys a similar reputation, it would be truly weird to find that OSC's website hasn't had visitors from Cornell.

Ubernerds? [Roll Eyes] Caltechers are many things, but hardly ubernerds.

Most of the ones I know are only of average nerdiness. [Big Grin]

I'm at Cornell, but I don't think I even know where Geddes Lab is located. If its outside of a few of the science buildings I've probably never been in it.

Tom: Ok that's freaky if that's what it is.

Hollow: What year/major/etc are you? The Geddes Lab is a comp lab in Sibley hall. It's generally used for GIS (Global Information Systems) stuff.

I'm a first year chemistry grad student. So the amount of time I spend outside of Baker Lab/Clark Hall is kinda small.

The only time I was in Baker was for my Ling 101 class. Sibley's close to you tho!

Why? Most competent schools that are willing to give some server space to their students will have set up their labs this way for security reasons, and to avoid unfortunate situations like erosomniac's hypothetical.

And there's your answer. [Wink] I worked for Cornell's IT department for several years, and can guarantee that they prefer to do things the most bass-ackwards way possible whenever given the chance. Oi. [Razz]
