I have a date! I have a girlfriend, I have a prom date!

Her name's Susie. She's sweet, she's funny, she's pretty, and she's incredibly fun to be around. I asked her out and she, in turn, asked me to prom--something I as an underclassman had not thought of.

Anyways, I'm euphoric. So I had to share.

Rock on dude!

In a sad and sick way, my mind always rearranges the word "prom" in a pseudo-dyslexic fashion into the word "porn", even though the "m" has to become an "n". Even more sadly, I allow my mind to read it that way.

I'm glad to see this isn't one of *those* threads.

Congrats on the prom date! I kind of liked school dances back when I was in high school. Hopefully you have a fun group to go with in addition to your date--less pressure for you!

So.... just how long before prom do most people finally get the nerve to ask someone?

Just curious... (this is ivygirl's first year for a prom)..

In my experience, most people knew a month or so in advance. I, on the other hand, asked my Junior Prom and Senior Ball dates a maximum of two weeks prior. The best part was that I hadn't even planned on going either year and thus didn't have a dress. And because of this, the following needs to be said:

"Thank you, Mom (even though you won't see this), for making my dresses each year in so short a time!"

My sister knew about a month in advance who her date was going to be, but she'd had her dress for ages. I think she cares about stuff like that.

You asked your dates, Carrie? So it is pretty much commonly accepted for a girl to ask a guy?

Truthfully, most people don't really care who asks whom. In my cases, one was asking out of the blue (we went as friends, and have remained such ever since) and the other was more of a "I like you, but you need to dump your cheating ex-girlfriend, so how about I go to the dance with you so that actually happens?" type of situation.

But yes, it is acceptable for a girl to ask a guy. As long as it's not over the PA system during morning announcements...

Congratulations!

My first kiss was with a girl named Susie. It was on the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney World in 8th grade. I ended up taking her to Senior Prom years later, but just as friends.
<good memories>

I asked my date to prom. [Smile] Tell Ivy to go for it if there's someone she wants to go with.

In fact, tell her I said she can kiss him first too if she wants to. [Big Grin] As long as he's nice, respectful, and she sets clear personal boundries, of course. [Wink]

And cool, Joldo! Woo-hoo!

Pfffft. I'm not giving her permission to kiss him. I'm giving her permission to kiss him first. You know, instead of sitting around wondering if he's gonna kiss her.

I figure she's already gonna kiss someone if she wants to without either of our permissions anyway (hope so, anyway) so I might as well enable her to do it right.

[Big Grin] She gonna kill both of us, ya suppose?
