Does it cost extra to receive an overseas call on a cell phone? I know it'd cost me extra to make an overseas call but would it cost me extra to receive one?

I have a national T-Mobile plan, if that's important.

Thanks. [Smile]

To my knowledge this not only depends on your provider but also on what plan you have with them.

I have sprint and for an extra $5/month I can get their "free overseas" option. (I declined because I don't call overseas, nor do I travel overseas very frequently). So I assume without that option I'd pay more to make calls overseas or from overseas.

You really would have to check with your provider and see what applies in the plan you have subscribed to.

[edit to note that obviously I mis-read your question. But it seems to have been answered nicely before I posted anyway. [Blushing] ]

On the other hand, if you accept calls from overseas through an operator, you can be charged.
And that "acceptance" through an "operator" can be very tricky: such as following the original caller's or auto-message machine's instructions to eg "Press 3 if you want to be transfered over to the prize award office."
Next thing that happens is that you are being charged incredibly extravagant sums -- I've heard of Romanian phone scams hitting US consumers for over $100 per minute -- for a phone call that you are erroneously assuming that someone else is paying for.

Uhleeuh, I thought it did... But I don't know, because all incoming calls in Israel are free. [Smile]

Okay. Thanks so much for all of the information. [Smile]

I'm expecting a phone call from a friend in England and I didn't want to get charged for it if I can at all avoid it. The monthly payments are more than enough of a bill for me. Thanks again, guys and gal.
