People find Mallard Fillmore funny enough to follow? I always figured that people just kind of rolled their eyes at it or else read it with smug satisfaction, but not any real sense of amusement. That said, it's great to see someone else trying to define terms in order to set up more easily-defeated straw men; we haven't had any of that in, I dunno, maybe two minutes.

Well, that was fairly stupid.

No, wait. That was extremely stupid.

It's vented frustration. Was probably fresh and entertaining the first time someone made those same points a couple decades ago [Smile]

I fail to see any standard of humor any society has used anywhere which would make those fresh and entertaining.

That is a very preachy and condescending comic.

Well, so much for JamGodJeff (can I start a lamest screen name thread?). Looks like he came here expecting to find "conservative" buddies to bash them gall darned liberals.

I see no evidence of that from this or any of his other posts. He gave no opinion. Maybe he was trying to get a discussion going about how inane and baseless these strips are.

Or maybe you're right, but there's nothing to support that.

This seems to be the place to point out the difference between education and indoctrination.

And what's wrong with indoctrination anyhow?

I'm curious -- are there any funny conservative political comic strips? I'm assuming that the only reason that Mallard Fillmore is on the comics page is to "balance" out Doonesbury, and that if something else that was actually funny was available, that Mallard Fillmore's cartoonist would soon be unemployed...

I was kind of hoping that Mallard Fillmore would replace B.C., but no such luck.

I wonder if this comic was a reaction to the Republican Dictionary:

http://www.commondreams.org/views04/1110-23.htm

BI-PARTISANSHIP, n. When conservative Republicans work together with moderate Republicans to pass legislation Democrats hate.

CLARIFY, v. Repeating the same lie over and over again.

CLEAN, adj. The word used to modify any aspect of the environment Republican legislation allows corporations to pollute, poison, or destroy.

FAIRER, adj. Regressive.

FAITH, n. The stubborn belief that God approves of Republican moral values despite the preponderance of textual evidence to the contrary.

"I wonder if this comic was a reaction to the Republican Dictionary."

I doubt it.

The original comic is not there on the link anymore, right? Or was I seeing things?

Yep, they changed it.

The current "...ignorant person with no resiliance, very few life- or job-skills, who nevertheless feels really good about myself..." is a perfect description of MallardFilmore's cartoonist.
Which illustrates what was meant by "Well I was amused [Big Grin] for reasons other than intended"

Anyway, "I'm sure...it's for our own good"
