I can't believe they're letting this monster live. It's eaten 87 people for goodness sakes.

This is going to sound amazingly morbid, but the damned thing has been alive for nearly two decades.

It would almost be a waste to kill it. Especially for just doing what comes naturally.

According to the article, it's been alive for over 60 years, Trevor. It's only been eating people for the last 2 decades. [Eek!]

Huh. I guess I don't have as good a grasp of meters as I thought I did... I expected it to look much bigger.

The Croc won, hands down.

So they killed him, stuffed him, and put him on display.

I don't think the photos do it justice - that is a big, big handbag.

On the picture slideshow, there is an almost closeup of his head and how it looks almost as big as the back of the truck cab.

In that slideshow, they've got the picture of Steve Irwin feeding the croc while holding his one-month-old son.

What an idiot.

I noticed that, dkw. Still smaller than I thought. I looked at the slideshow, too, and agree that his head is quite large.

Trevor... forget about the handbag. Think of how many pairs of shoes/boots are in that baby...

The caption gave it's length in real measurements as 16'. I have a pick-up with an 8' bed, but it's a small truck. How big is a standard pick-up bed? He's (she's?)in it diagonally, with the head bent up and the tail twisted and partly not showing. I guess I could buy 16'.

Standard pickup bed in America is 4' x 8' - you can stack plywood and gypboard in it on top of the hubs.

Really? I thought half-sized trucks had smaller beds than full-sized.

Here you go:

quote:
Bed lengths and cargo size. Bed lengths range from a full-sized 8-foot version to a shorter 4-foot bed on some crew-cab models. A truck with a longer bed more difficult to maneuver in tight situations. Many compact pickups offer a flip-out bed extender, which allows the truck to be used with the tailgate down for carrying longer cargo. A truck with a short 6.5-foot bed, for instance, can accommodate 8-foot cargo with the tailgate down. Extenders take up cargo space when the tailgate is closed, but they can be easily removed.

The Chevrolet Avalanche and Cadillac Escalade EXT crew cabs have a midgate between the rear seat and the pickup bed. The midgate can be opened and the rear seat folded to extend the cargo area to 8 feet, from its normal 5-foot length. The Subaru Baja has a small pass-through opening that can be used a in similar way.

I only knew because someone explained it to my while we were hauling 20 sheets of plywood to his back yard. I commented on the fact they fit exactly, and he said full-sized pickups were designed that way.

I'm glad to learn he wasn't making that up.

"Real" measurements indeed. 16 feet and 5 meters are just about the same. Either way, that's one big monster.

"I can't believe they're letting this monster live. It's eaten 87 people for goodness sakes."

Politics rears its ugly head again. The crocodile is obviously very popular amongst the people.
Otherwise they woulda quit feeding it.

Bah, I've eaten over 90 people. Nobody's caught me yet.

OK, so they were chocolate Santas at Christmas, but still.
