According to the article, it's been alive for over 60 years, Trevor. It's only been eating people for the last 2 decades.

Huh. I guess I don't have as good a grasp of meters as I thought I did... I expected it to look much bigger.

The caption gave it's length in real measurements as 16'. I have a pick-up with an 8' bed, but it's a small truck. How big is a standard pick-up bed? He's (she's?)in it diagonally, with the head bent up and the tail twisted and partly not showing. I guess I could buy 16'.

Standard pickup bed in America is 4' x 8' - you can stack plywood and gypboard in it on top of the hubs.

quote:Bed lengths and cargo size. Bed lengths range from a full-sized 8-foot version to a shorter 4-foot bed on some crew-cab models. A truck with a longer bed more difficult to maneuver in tight situations. Many compact pickups offer a flip-out bed extender, which allows the truck to be used with the tailgate down for carrying longer cargo. A truck with a short 6.5-foot bed, for instance, can accommodate 8-foot cargo with the tailgate down. Extenders take up cargo space when the tailgate is closed, but they can be easily removed.
The Chevrolet Avalanche and Cadillac Escalade EXT crew cabs have a midgate between the rear seat and the pickup bed. The midgate can be opened and the rear seat folded to extend the cargo area to 8 feet, from its normal 5-foot length. The Subaru Baja has a small pass-through opening that can be used a in similar way.

I only knew because someone explained it to my while we were hauling 20 sheets of plywood to his back yard. I commented on the fact they fit exactly, and he said full-sized pickups were designed that way.
I'm glad to learn he wasn't making that up.

"Real" measurements indeed. 16 feet and 5 meters are just about the same. Either way, that's one big monster.

I always wondered what became of Petey after mom made me flush him. I'm so happy to hear he's doing well.

Somebody should feed that thing an alarm clock so people will hear it ticking before it attacks again.
