This thread is a place for you to share those little computer applications that you find very useful and that you think that others would like to know about.
Here are some of mine:
MP3 Gain. All this program does is change the volume levels of a group of mp3s so that they all sound the same volume. This eleviates the problem of one track being very soft, turning up the volume for it, and then the next one blasting too loud.
Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative. These programs install everything you need to watch and listen to Real and Quicktime media, but without trying to take over your computer.
Paste Quote extension for firefox. This extension gives you a contextual menu "paste quote" that will paste whatever is on your clipboard, but with quote brackets around it. Very handy on boards like Hatrack.

Downloading this one right now, this is exactly what I was looking for a few months ago and I must have asked badly because the answers I got were all related to the equalizer and volume leveling within the progress of a single track.
Any idea of the releveled MP3's can be saved that way and transferred to a portable unit (i.e. my Dell DJ)?

a great program that stores everything that you copy to your clipboard. You can have separate folders to store things that you use a lot...so you can easily click on them to put them back in the clipboard. It is very handy for when you want to paste a series of clips...since it will let you automatically paste one clip after another from your collection.
Sadly, you have to pay for it...but I thought it was well worth it

MP3Gain is an implemantation of Replay Gain. Another solution is to use a media player that supports Replay Gain without requiring you to modify the file's data directly. As far as I know foobar2000 is the only player that supports this.
