College students are really bad at making magazines.

Explanation: In one of my classes, were are supposed to get into groups and create magazines. We pick a magazine we want to imitate and each student was supposed to submit "articles" for a couple different magazines. Now, the "editors" were supposed to send out letters after articles were submitted outlining changes that needed to be made to each article. For some reason, both the articles I wrote were accepted with letters of "We can't find anything wrong with it. Thanks." I realize this is mostly just college students procrastinating and not being really good judges of...good writing. But, uhh...I kinda figured there would be at least SOMETHING wrong with the first drafts I submitted. Thank goodness college students don't run real magazines...

Most likely they just saw a chance of less work, and took it [Wink]

Curse my ability to write really good first drafts. I blame my own procrastinatory nature.

So ... when are you going to transcend your studenthood and send those articles out, at least as a sample of your work, to the magazines they would have been submitted to in the real world?

Since you can't possibly be that good [Wink] maybe your group was too small. I've had to do the critique thing, and I've come across papers that I couldn't find anything wrong with, but when you've got, like, 15 people, at least a couple are going to find something they think could be improved, if for no other reason than they don't like your style. I'm sure you are every bit as talented as the lack of criticism implies, but it's a thought.

And may you be infinitely more successful in your writing career than I am. Was. Ever will be.

Boris, I'm writing technical training manuals. So far, everything I submit is like it goes into a black hole. Nothing ever comes back. The CEO hired a guy to convert my files to help files to send out to our customers. I'm still a little incredulous. They can't possibly be good enough to actually go into production.

I'm left to conclude that no one has read them. Or that the ones who did fell asleep and haven't woken up yet.
