...ever. Well, that I'm taking, anyway. Tonight, I attend the final class of my (absurdly) long college career. It's not a good class, which is unfortunate...but at least it'll the last.

Hooray! [Big Grin]

It's the end of my coursework.

Sadly, it's not the end of my doctorate, since I still have qualifying exams and dissertation to go. But, no more classes, which is a HUGE portion of it gone.

Thanks, you guys! [Big Grin]

[Party]

I'm taking my qualifying exams in the fall, and then I'll have to write my dissertation. Essentially, it will be another year to two years (I'm hoping to keep it closer to the year mark, since I'll be doing some research for my dissertation this summer).

It just seems crazy, after having been in school for so long non-stop, to have classes come to an end. It's good kind of crazy...but it's still definitely crazy.

So... where are you going to be working while working on your dissertation?

Well, I'm working for UITS on campus right now as a computer consultant, a job that actually allows me to work on other things while I'm working (as long as it's on the computer and not physically in front of me), so I'll continue doing the computer lab job. I may also be working for my department as a GA next fall (which doesn't have the time limits that our version of a TA has, so that's nice). I debated on trying to get a one-year teaching appointment somewhere, but I don't think I'd have the time to write the dissertation while being first-year faculty. And, since my hubby has a good job, I don't have the economic pressure to go out into the field just yet. [Smile]

To make a long story short, I'm staying here. [Smile] That's actually another reason for my having high hopes of finishing relatively quickly; I won't be off teaching just yet.

Thanks! [Big Grin]

It's a very weird feeling...like I've been set free, but I keep expecting there to be a jerk on an invisible leash or something that pulls me back in.

"Muahaha! You still have one more course to do!"

Or something.

I imagine you feel like I might when I change the last diaper of my last kid. I'll know there will probaby be other kids around who'll need diapers changed, and grandkids someday, but for right then, I'll feel like it's the last diaper ever!

Ignore me, I just changed a really gross diaper.
