When I wrote my landmark, months and months ago, I talked about my experiences losing several jobs and finding several more, sometimes under strange circumstances.

During one of the periods when I was looking for a new job, a friend at Church hooked me up for an interview with his brother, who has his own rather successful law firm in town. (Their father used to be on the State Supreme Court.) I was granted the interview, but really only as a favor from the attorney to his brother. He had no interest in hiring me, and didn't really take the interview very seriously. He did graciously point me in a direction that ended up in a job with a different firm.

That was about a year and a half ago. Yesterday, my friend's son spoke in church about his mission, from which he recently returned. The attorney, of course, joined his family at church to welcome this missionary home. He stayed for Sunday School afterward, which is unusual for visitors. During Sunday School I spoke up more than my share, which is typical even when I'm not teaching (I teach every other week).

I have no idea what I said, but something struck a chord with this attorney. He remembered me, and asked his brother about me -- where I am working now, whether I enjoy my job, whether I am as smart as I sound, etc. He, the attorney, said "I think we need to give him another interview." His brother, my friend, told him he thought I was happy in my job. The attorney then repeated, "No, I REALLY think we need to give him another interview."

After the meeting, he sought me out, called me by name (I had no idea he remembered me), and asked me about my job. He asked what I've been doing. He mentioned his new office building, which is much closer to my home than my current office. He said that his firm is looking to hire more attorneys, and he asked me to call him Tuesday.

I was floored. This is a really good firm, with a great reputation. It would be a step up for me, although I do enjoy my current job, and like the people I work with. I am really psyched. This could be a very good thing.

But the thing that makes me feel really good is that he remembered me, and that once he actually had a chance to find out even a little about who I really am he felt like he just had to talk to me about a job. HE came to ME. I am not looking right now, I didn't come begging at his door. I am IN DEMAND, apparently, and it feels good.

Congrats! I hate job interviews. You got to skip one.

Remember, you must use your powers for good.

Fantastic!

So, what happened? Did you take a second interview? Are you interested in switching? What? C'mon! It's not nice to keep us waiting like this!

I had a telephone interview, and am now waiting to hear back.

I don't know whether I would switch firms. It depends on what kind of work they do, what they would expect me to do, and what the offer is.

I do like the fact that the firm is much larger than the one where I work now. This means greater stability. The firm won't suddenly disappear out from under me if they lose a big client.

Also, I like the idea of working closer to home. I could use a shorter commute.

congrats. Even if you don't take the job, it feels good to be wanted. [Smile]

Though if you get the offer, it sounds like a good oportunity.
