My parents promised to get me a labtop for university which is great and all but I'm not sure what to look for. I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions for what to look for.

Well, a fire-proof counter is always helpful. [Wink]

Hmm... I started to think up all these funny jokes about lab tops and bottoms, and how that was kind of weird science, but if you're into that kind of thing, well, thats cool...
And then, this little doubt entered my mind. That maybe he wasnt mispelling laptop, and there really was some product out there called a labtop. But nope. The jokes still apply. And are still astoundingly funny.

When we were anticipating our tax refund, we discussed getting me a laptop. I wanted a tablet pc. I still do, kind of, but I'm concerned that it would be more easily broken than the regular type. [Dont Know]

I didn't really do much research. All I can say is the generic advice - do your research. Decide what you want to use it for - if gaming, will it run your games (I was concerned about being able to run Sims2). Decide your price range, and if you have any prejudice against a particular company (I know former Gateway employees who lost their jobs to outsourcing).

The one I am looking at is the Asus Z71v. You can pick it up for as little as $1500. It can handel all the current games and apps.

We cover our labtops with this absorbent material. It's very not fireproof, but then we're rarely working with fire or flammable chemicals. Well, I guess the methanol is pretty flammable, but we're using that in small quantities.
