It's interesting how many cliche sayings I've heard since I was a little kid, and yet I don't fully realize/understand how true they are until they happen to me.
For example:
"Practice makes perfect."
When I used think I wanted to write, every time I wrote a new story it was much better than the last one. I just didn't have the motivation to continue doing it.
Music on the other hand, I have been working on. A lot.
My songs used to be god-awful. I remember some of my first few tunes I composed, and I cringe when I think of them.
And now my songs are starting to become decent. I 've been writing stuff that I'd actually like to pop into my cd player and listen to.
I can't think of any other examples right now, but I know that over the past year, my first year in college, living on my own and having some semblance of control over my own life, I've found many sayings that finally rang true.
Actually, thinking of that, one does come to mind.
My parents and others always used to tell me "You'll appreciate what your parents do when you grow up/don't have it anymore". I always just kind of brushed it off unintentionally. But after living a year without my parents, I really noticed all the little things like my mother doing my laundry and other stuff.
Anyways, just a couple of my thoughts down the road of life.

I miss my father's piano playing. He could play Bach better than anyone, Glenn Gould included. There are tons of recordings of his trombone playing but because he rarely played piano professionally, there are none of his piano playing. I wish he were here to play me that Rachmaninoff Waltz that always made me want to dance around the room. Or Stravisky's Petroushka. Or anything. I miss his piano playing.
