Years ago, when I was quite little, I remember reading a book that I loved. Since then I've looked for it off and on, but I don't even know what it is called, so I thought I'd ask the people of hatrack for help and hope that I didn't just dream the book. All that I can remember of it is this:

It's about a spoiled princess who is kidnapped by someone who is believed to be an ogress. Really this person is a teacher, headmistress of a school of sorts, and in her castle, that is the school, there are many rooms, each one contains a lesson. One of the rooms the princess goes into and there is a girl in a field sitting beneath a tree and picking flowers and putting them in her dress and then she throws them back and they grow again. The princess tries it and they just die and she has a tantrum. Also her parents are searching for her...and she comes out changed -- better -- much to the horror of her family.

So yeah, does anybody know what book it is that I'm talking about? can you tell me that it wasn't all just a dream?

If it was just a dream, I hope you'll write it. It sounds interesting.

But no, I have no clue.

Strangely, that sounds very familiar.

It kind of reminds me of the Miss Nelson books by Harry G. Allard (who also wrote about The Stupids), but I'm pretty sure that's not it.
