This is just disgusting. At the risk of displaying my atavistic impulses, I have to admit that I'm envisioning various means of torture for someone who would abuse anyone because they interrupted their gameplay.

Okay... I'm a gamer. I love video games. But they have a pause button. This is sickening, and that guy is a disgrace to gamers, fathers, and the human race in general. I hope he finds out about "True Crime" from a very large cellmate whose never heard of lubricant.

Hold on just a second. This guy didn't kill his kid because he interrupted a video game. He killed his kid [WORD REMOVED], and then ALSO, BY THE WAY, he's a jerk when you interrupt his video games. That's ALL the article says! But the headline is what ... BLAMING the games for the killing?

Well, it doesn't sound to me like it was really negligence. Sounds like the kids were abused, and I can't imagine that he accidentally sat on the kid and then fell asleep.
But yeah, it doesn't say anything about the video games making him do it. In fact, it was sort of a confusing article. What was the point of the suffocation/CPR bit in the middle? It sounded like they were trying to imply that the kid hadn't really suffocated, but then they never really go anywhere with that.
Ugh. I hate journalistic writing.

CPR is extremely rough on the body. Perhaps he nailed the kid in the chest and tried to explain away by being the hero.

The guy was sick, but why did they even mention video games in the article at all? They make it seem like his playing video games are what caused the kids death.

I didn't get that they blamed the video games at all. They just made the guy look like he had a big issue with violence, not made better by his video game addiction.
I mean, I'm a pretty gentle guy, but get on front of me while I'm playing Tetris and you're gonna get yelled at. Just think what something like that could do to someone with an already violent temper.
The article may have jumped to conclusions when it gave the video game interruption as the reason for him abusing the children, but then again, I felt like they knew more about the case than the article could outright suggest.

I used the wrong word, sorry. I was just pissed off that this "news" source is implicitly attributing the death of this child to my industry, on the grounds of an extremely tenuous correlation, rather than placing the blame on the father where it belongs. The child died because he had an abusive father who apparently didn't care about his survival and suffocated him by falling asleep on him after beating him half to death. The child was not killed by a video game. I know that's obvious to everyone here, but articles like this put exactly that idea into a lot of people's minds.

The child given CPR wasn't the one that died. That was Bryon.

The kid that survived (was given CPR in a separate incident before his brother's death) was Tyrese, who had fractures to skull, ribs, arm and legs. That sounds a bit extensive for CPR injuries. (no medical training here, just trying to apply common sense)
What I get out of this is that there is a game-obsessed person who puts that above everything else. I've seen a person who would yell at family members and not cook food for minor children because he's "in a game" and couldn't take the time to cook.
And that's not even console games. This person is a major Internet addict and has been for years. I haven't seen violence, though.

The fact that he's been like this for quite some time and she left twins with him is something that I find amazing. Why would you leave twins with someone who you know can't/won't take care of them?

No, he wasn't killed by the video game, but it could be argued that he was killed by an addict parent. And the actions of addicts are often blamed on the "drug".
Same thing that happened when those Vampire rpg nutjobs killed their parents. It wasn't the game that did it, but the kids addiction to it and obsession with that idea/world.
The wife should have had some sort of intervention long ago, or simply left. But, Geoff, I think the implication in the article that the game is somehow at fault stems from that "blame the drug, not the addict" sort of mentality.
It's also similar to the "blame the gun not the shooter" mentality.

I would not have left my children with him. And why didn't their health visitors notice that something was wrong? I'm sorry, but even fractures that are "not visible" do have effects; children being fussy, not moving right, etc.
