Engadget.com is just a site about new gadgets, and technologies and gizmos really. Mostly includes just quick summeries though, sometimes with links to more informational pages.
I was browsing through, and found some interesting articles I thought I'd share with the Hatrack community.
That is so noble. I hope after 10 years of research, it wont fail. Will it say "Use at your own risk. Manufacturer isn't liable for death if device fails." But something is better than nothing. And it better stay $2 a year. It would be evil to get people dependent on the thing and then jack the price up. Poor countries have been exploited like this in the past.

I'm all for 3d TV. But stadium smells? How would we know if dinner is burning if the TV is putting out contradictory smells?
I've seen various TV screens that take the image and give it depth. Pretty cool stuff. Problem is, the source is almost always filmed without depth because all the video cameras on the market are single lens...
I bet the best way to advance depth filmography is to take HD camcorders and add special lenses that split the signal into a left and right. HD is big enough that it should be possible. But I have no idea what I'm talking about...

I read the full article link on the Lifestraw and that is really amazing. I suspect it will become one of the major charity items sent to third world nations and disaster relief areas.
I do have a concern about it for long term use though. They don't mention if there's any way for the user to tell when the filter is wearing out. They say it's good for about a year for 1 person's normal water consumption (possibly less if regularly used on saline water), after which the filter effectiveness begins decreasing. I just hope there's some sort of indicator for how much it's been used, so people know when they need to get another one. And so people couldn't sell a used up straw to someone who'd have no way of knowing!
