Aye, today was my last day on board the USS Ronald Reagan. Woot! I stayed long enough for a fellow first class petty officer friend of mine to supervise the morning cleaning of berthing. When the hour was up I took off for Personnel and checked out my service record, changed into civilian clothes in berthing, and walked off the ship.
Albeit, I ticked off a few people. They wanted me to leave via the officer quarterdeck (I get dinged {bells} off since I am a Plankowner). I just wanted off the dang ship. There were plenty of handshakes in between.
I am staying in Old Town San Diego for a few days before leaving. This is because I have a few items to take care of still. Like a dinner date with a pretty lady , a party for my friend Rick who just got married , and on Saturday, about 6 of us are going to Sea World or the Zoo (maybe. This will probably fall through).
Anyway, I have to be in New York (the state) by the morning of Oct 6th. Where I will begin my 3 and 1/2 years as an instructor at the prototype training facility.
pro's: - close to home (10 hours) - shore duty - NY is better than CA (almost 100% true) - close to my old truck that I am fixing up
con's: - Girlfriend lives here in CA - BAH is lower in NY - I will be working a rotating shift schedule

Well, ok I am back. Nice party.....had friends and beer. What else is needed? The only person who told the drunk to shut up was the neighbor's wife (He was the drunk). She said it with a smile, so we told her she had to come over and enjoy in the fun.
I turned out to be the last to leave. Rick and I just sat around talking about the old days. Just generally passing time.
