I attend the Rosen School of Hospitality at The University of Central Florida and this is my junior year. A couple days ago I received an email from my advisor informing me about a study abroad program in Angers France (it is about 90 minutes out of Paris). Angers University has a hotel and tourism program and they just recently added english speaking classes.

I would sign up for classes here at UCF and take the equivilent in France. My scholarships here would pay for the tuition.

I have been dying to study abroad. I love to travel and learn other countries culture. They are only taking 10 students from the Rosen Campus so I really have to stand out. We need 2 recommendation letters, 1 essay on why I should be chosen, my resume, and of course an application.

I know this sounds like a no brainer, but it has all happened so fast. I need to make a decision by october 7th because I would be leaving January 2006 (and returning in june).

I have to figure so much out in the next couple of weeks. Whether I am going to try to be chosen, if so how do I get out of my lease, how am I going to pay for it, AHHHHH...this is driving me nuts!! [Angst]

Wow, what a fantastic opportunity. You've got details to work out, of course, but by all means, go!

Most apartments have a clause in their leases stating that if you're moving for work (school may count too) more that 50 miles further away than you currently were from your job, you can get out of your lease without punishment. It depends on the apartment. You may also be able to sub-let, it depends on the building. Some allow sub-letting and some don't. Pull out that ol' copy of your lease and see what it says.

Why don’t you sort out your application now any way. If you decide not to apply you’ve only lost a bit of your time, not risked putting in a poor application because you are in a rush.

Then read the thread about regrets and ask yourself if you want to be posting on that thread in a years time saying how you missed this great opportunity to study in France.

There are two types of regrets – the bad decisions and the opportunities not taken. It is often only with hindsight that you know about the first type, but the second type are the ones that you can avoid.

You say you have been dying to study abroad, so do it. The barriers are just hurdles to jump. Get on with it, sort out the best application you can. Then if you don’t get it you will know you tried your best.
