I thought it was good. Very stylishly filmed. Well acted. Interesting plot. Charlise Theron was very good as an action hero. She came off as intelligent and deadly. I loved the "futuristic realism" of the sets. I'm guessing a lot of it was filmed around real-life buildings. Nice change of pace to see a fascist Utopia that didn't look to be modeled on the summer catalog from Nazis-R-Us.

I've never seen the original and really knew nothing about the movie I couldn't guess from the preview. That could be why I like it so much. [Dont Know] At any rate, if you're looking for a beautifully filmed, sexy, relatively smart action/sci-fi flick to get you out of the Chrismast Shopping crowds, you could do far worse.

I'm predicting relatively poor box office for this movie, though, which is too bad. I think it's going to be crushed by Narnia and King Kong and then abandoned to DVD by the studio. It would have been a better October/Early November, or maybe even end-of-Summer release.

Did you see it? What did you think?

From another thread -- tern saw it:

Saw it, I thought that it was pretty decent. The science fiction aspect of the story was pretty good, Charlize Theron looked good, the action was decent, the atmosphere was nice. The only discordant note was the big bad, who looked like a frat boy having a bad day. (What! No beer! Kill them all!"

I saw it this weekend and really enjoyed it. I did think there was a bit of a glaring plot hole --

SPOILER

.

.

Una only took a day or two to be "reborn?" WTF? They said that it still takes nine months to have a baby, didn't they?

.

-- but I didn't notice it during the movie.

But then, I'm a total sucker for a love story disguised as something else. *shuffles feet*

i saw it and didnt really like it. im a big fan of the original series, but this movie didnt really do the original much justice. sathandra was totally changed and i didnt like her new look. also the scene in the garden where they both have to go at the same time.. that is from the series too, but it wasnt a garden then, and i didnt really like the change.

Oh, I hadn't thought about that twinky, but you're right!

I liked the movie fairly well. It wasn't brilliant, but it was competent, which is quite a bit more than I expected.

I expect that most people who saw the series will react as krynn did, but for those who knew absolutely nothing about Aeon Flux at all, it wasn't bad.

I wonder if maybe the best way to make a movie from a series like this is to set the movie within the series' timeline, as they did with the Cowboy Bebop movie.

Of course, with Cowboy Bebop, they kind of had to do that.

I really don't think that is correct. There were indicators that a fair bit of time had passed.
1) Aeon's hair was longer.
2) when Aeon receives her mission instructions to kill Chairman Goodchild, she makes a statement about having waited long enough, or her handler says I know you have been waiting. Something to that effect anyway.

I took that second item to imply that she'd been waiting her whole life to kill him, not waiting since Una's death.

Your interpretation makes more sense, though.

I liked it. And I'm a big fan of Aeon Flux (I have all the episodes on tap). I liked how they incorporated many little (and big) things from the original series into the movie.

Most of the changes were tolerable if not enjoyable. I'm happy they kept Aeon a little clumsy.
