After much hemming and hawing and a good bit of encouragement from friends and family, I've opened up my own etsy shop to sell the jewellery I make. It's small so far (mostly due to my inability to get clear photos), but I'm having fun with it!

I looked, and I didn't see another topic on this. Are there other etsy-selling jatraqueros here? How have you found the experience? Do you sell the fun stuff you make, or make stuff to sell?

My wife has sold in the past: karenkrafts.etsy.com. With the kid and grad school, she hasn't much time, but she's hoping to start up again after graduation in a few weeks. She hasn't made a killing on etsy, but she has sold to as far away as Greece.

The trick is to keep your store fresh with relistings.

A good friend of mine is starting an etsy store soon and I am excited. I am supposed to be getting a magic coupon code to buy things at cost, as soon as she figures that out (she thinks it will probably have to be a custom order thing actually).

My wife recently opened one as well, but has so far only sold to friends.

I just started a shop back in January. www.crystalcrafts.etsy.com

I've only sold 2 items so far, but I had such a collection of things that I had made that I thought it would be fun to try to sell them.

I really like those! If I had a kid to put into them, I would totally want one. Maybe for my nephew when he gets a bit bigger - his mum loves handmade and non-corporate stuff.

Thanks, JenniK! I'm working on some more geeky designs right now - brontosaurus, dodo, and chemical compounds are my immediate projects, and I hope to expand to illuminated capitals soon.

Mostly I just want to have fun. It's a blast making this stuff, and if I sell enough to recoup the materials cost, I'll be content. [Smile]

I just started making chainmail and wire jewelry six weeks ago, and I'm in love with it. I'm definitely interested in etsy at some point. I'd ask for advice, but it sounds like most folks are pretty new to it as well. [Smile]

Maybe when I've got some inventory built up everyone else will know all the tips and tricks.

I love the idea of treble clef earings.

My friend sells her jewelery on Etsy and seems to be quite happy with it.

I've been selling on etsy for about 2 years now and have really enjoyed it so far. Linky Goodness

I'm excited to see other jatraqueros on etsy! Maybe if there's eventually enough of us we should form a team...

My mom just started an etsy shop, based off of toys that she's made for her grandkids: Best Loved Child.

My cousin makes a bunch of cool accessories and stuff and sells them on etsy. HERE is a link to her page, she doesn't have much up because she is moving but you might like some of the stuff she has sold in the past.

I'll have to check that out in a few weeks, Xann. I like to go over to Noxenlux to drool over the crazy hats. I'm too cheap to buy any of them, and I have no idea where I'd wear one if I did, but I do love to look. [Smile]

So let me ask you Etsy sellers something. How did you decide on your shipping price? I've been looking at a bunch of stores,a nd there's a lot of variation.

Do you think I'm better off building the cost of the envelope and gift box or bag into the cost of the item or backload it into the shipping cost?

There is a huge range in shipping costs on Etsy. I think you can do it either way, but I think it's good to do it consistently. I state in my shipping policies that my shipping price includes the packing/shipping materials as well as postage (and, in the case of things that I have to take to the post office, a small amount for the time/gas to do so). With my items, it usually translates to postage + about $.50

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of envelopes are you using and where are you getting them? The bubble wrap envelopes at Staples run about a dollar each.

My wife is, she has yet to sell anything [Frown] but she loves her crafts photos so hopefully one day.

Here she is [url= http://"http://www.etsy.com/shop/Katydid007"]Shuttbug Boutique[/url]

Which reminds me, I really need to work on her banner.

Also, I've looked at all of your stores and bookmarked them, I'm really impressed!

Porter, those are lovely. I especially love the cameo and silhouette.

Philoso, your wife is a wonderful photographer. The light coming through the amaryllis is just perfect.

Wow, I had no idea so many jatraqueros were so talented... it's too bad that I discovered this when I moved across the ocean to where it's more difficult to ship...

But I will keep you all in mind. Seriously. [Smile]
