Of course I'm shaking like a leaf.

Belle, one of our Australian shepherds has proven to be an escape artist. We've tried everything we could think of to keep her in the fence, and she still kept getting over it, so finally we bought one of those electrified ones and ran the lines along the fence and put a shock thingie on her collar. Well, it worked, she learned pretty quickly not to go too near the fence line and we got confident again that she was safe. The other pup, Shadow, never tries to leave the yard.

Well, today, the kids were outside playing in the area beyond our fenced back yard and Belle decided to go play with them. She jumped over the fence and ran off to join them, then took off after some neighborhood dogs. Turned out the transmitter had fallen off her collar sometime, so there was no shock when she got close to the fence.

A lady in our neighborhood hit her. She didn't run over her, she slammed on her brakes and apparently just barely bumped her with the car. Belle is okay, she has a split lip, and one of her feet has a laceration. Nothing serious, she is walking and eating and drinking fine and doesn't appear to be hurt that badly. We found the transmitter, it fell off her collar in the backyard.

she's inside now, resting and we'll try to get the collar fixed soon. Whew. Not a good feeling when the kids come to the door screaming "Mommy! Somebody hit Belle with the car!"

Ooo. That's one of those stories that makes me afraid for my dog. But I'm glad Belle is okay.

That is why I have a cat. Actually, it isn't. But I can say it is.

Anywho, that is a scary thing. I'd probably really freak out if that had happened. I'd end up putting electric shock collars on the dogs and the kids.

Oh, dear, I'm glad she's not badly hurt! That would be so traumatic for the kids! I hope you find a way to keep her safe from herself.

Wes is feeling guilty, said that when he took her for a walk yesterday he noticed her collar shockie-thingie was missing and didn't do anything about it. But, now he's got the collars switched so Belle is wearing the one that works, Shadow has the one that doesn't (she never tries to get out) and the makers of the collars are sending us a new one for free, since it shouldn't have broken off like that. So soon both puppies will have the right collars back on but in the meantime it should be okay because Shadow doesn't try to escape.

I'm glad she's ok.

Lucky Belle.

My dog is an escape artist too, but luckily we have found a gate (8 ft) that even she can't jump over.

I am glad she si OK. I watched my dog get hit once as a child, and it is still a horrible memory.

She ran UNDER his car, it wasn't his fault at all, but he felt horrible. My dog at the time, Brandy, climbed under the bed and wouldn't come out for days...we even fed her under there while she licked her wounds and healed.

She was ok, but I was only about 8 at the time so it really bothered me.

I'm glad she is ok. I had a dalmation that got out and was hit by a car. She ended up with six screws and a metal plate in her leg.

your dog is really lucky. my brothers dog Rose was run over by a tracker giving a hay-ride the day of christmas and he couldnt find anywhere to take her. We didnt hear from him for 3 or 4 days, but it turns out Rose was ok, and only hurt your back right leg. I saw her last week and i couldnt even see any scars and she seemed happy and ran just fine. no limping or anything. in the family we called it a xmas miracle. my brother rescued Rose as a pup when she fell out of the back some someone's pickup, both of her two pups were hit and killed by cars, and somehow she has always been the wildest one and she was fine. anyway, i agree that its a really scary thing hearing that someone's dog got hit by a car, and im happy yours is alive and ok.
