So, Nathan just went out into the cold to pick up a prescription for me at the pharamacy. He comes back, all irritated. I don't blame him, because he's back without the prescription. He says that the pharmacist said the doctor called it back and I'd have to talk to the doctor about it.
What the hell?
It's a refill. Of Protonix, of all things.
The doctor called it back? What?

I would hope that if the doctor wanted you to discontinue a medication, the doctor would call you and say, "Stop taking Protonix".
Did you get new insurance with the new year? Perhaps Protonix is off formulary (because the insurance company wants to save money by having you buy some over the counter H+ blocker) with the new plan, and you need a whole whoop-de-do from your doctor to continue taking it. And then it will cost you. So when the pharmacist called the doctor to initiate the whoop-de-do, the doctor said "Never mind all that whoop-de-do, Jamie can take some over the counter Pepcid".

I switched to a new insurance plan months ago. I also switched to a new PCP months ago, but this script is from the old one. But I've been refilling it for months, so I have no idea why all of the sudden the doctor would call to have it stopped.
It's just frustrating because, of course, I now have abdominal pain.

I would call your doctor and harass him. Yes, it's a long weekend. Yes, it's night time. But he really should tell you when he does stuff like that.
Unless, of course, it's the insurance or the pharmacy that messed up.

That's the thing, he isn't my PCP anymore, just the prescribing doc for the protonix. I've never had a problem like this before. I mean, the doc I had before him never pulled this sort of thing. I'm confused.

1. I think the pharmacist was not being very clear with his information.
2. I bet you were right when we talked on AIM. Since he isn't your doctor anymore, you can't GET refills under his name. You have to get them from your pcp. Doctors don't want any liability by refilling meds of patients who aren't theirs. So all your old refills got cancelled.
3. Paging a doctor on a Sunday night for a nonurgent medication, when he doesn't have your chart, and it may even be someone else on call for him, is usually pretty useless.
