Figuring out what a landmark is was easy, and I think I get a dobie, since the context is usually close at hand, but this one stumps me.

What's a dobie?
A landmark?
Mayfly?
Are there any others?

Dobie - a thread with a title similar to some serious thread, but with something changed to make it humorous. Usually contains a link. Dobies are usually not very popular, from my experience.

Mayfly - a thread that may disappear quickly. Often used to get in contact with some other user. Once contact is made, the thread is deleted.

The Hatrack Slang thread does a good job of explaining the special vocab. But if you think it's more fun to puzzle out the definitions on your own (like me), don't read it. [Smile]

From what I have heard, Dobies done by Dobie were good, the rest stink. Dobie was banned though, don't know why.

A landmark is a post that will be archived forever, it should tell about yourself.

This is actually just a legend. There have been no good dobies. Ever. [Smile]

I beg to differ! Dag's dobie a few days ago was pretty dern good. The key is to only do it in extreme moderation.

His were convincing, though - the titles were almost always identical or with one small letter changed, so that we all clicked on the wrong thread all the time. Not like the ones now where usually a whole word is different.

Not, as Tatiana says, that this made them good. "Annoying where the heck did that thread I thought I was reading go," yes. [Smile]

Imogen's dobie here was pretty good. I think it won a 'Rackademy Award even.

I guess. But the fun part was the ceremony. And choosing what to "wear" -- with Mrs.M's help, of course. And the presentation speeches.

Who actually won was secondary (and in several cases, downright odd).
