I remember that Peanuts episode where the chair eats... Snoopy?

Poor Snoopy, always getting beaten up.

Right, people that need help to sit in a chair are the ones we want to be firefighters.

"Sir, it doesn't seem to be working!"

"Do you have the stuffing all bunched up at one end?"

Now, you will stay in the comfy chair until lunchtime, with only a cup of coffee at eleven!

CONFESS!

What did I do wrong, I sat down, I pulled the lever, and before I knew it my arm was severed. If only I had read the manual.

You forgot to put your personal head protector over the headrest first.

*honestly*

A four page manual. For a chair.

That's what I call scary.

My husband didn't at all find this funny. He said it was completely typical, that he wasn't surprised at all because his fire department does the same kind of insane stuff.

I would imagine that the reason for the chairs is to give them a place to rest between calls without having them lying down. It's easier to wake and get up from a recliner than a bed, and it might help response times, or at any rate that is probably part of the rationale.

Wes told me a story of how they decided to switch to a new computer system and sent new computers out to all the stations, with notes that they weren't to be touched until every station had been trained. His station never got the training before they decided to upgrade to another system, bought all new equipment and eventually sent someone out to pick up the brand new, boxed computers that were never used so they could be auctioned off. Your governments at work, folks, it's pretty sad.
