Or so says Spider One, lead singer of Powerman 5000. I've just recently discovered them. I like their most recent album, Transform , the best because they actually sing.
Their previous albums is more of a monotone rap accompained by really heavy guitar. Especially their first album, which brings us such disturbing songs as "Even Superman Shot Himself."
They have a somewhat distinctive sound. Its hard rock-ish, with elements of rap, pop, and opera. I'm assuming this all the influence of their writer and singer Spider One.
Spider is actually the younger brother of Rob Zombie, who makes a guest appearance on the song "Blast Off to Nowhere."
They've also done a number of good remakes. Their renditions of "Let the Good Times Roll," by The Cars and "Relax," from the movie Zoolander .
The guitar is simplistic but not overly so. And the lyrics allusion to more serious matters though most of theirs songs are not depressing and serious. They are almost dance worthy.
I really like them. If you haven't heard of them, you should check out their songs "Stereotype," "That's Entertainment," and "Action." They're really good.
This being said, has anyone else heard any music by Powerman 5000?

I've heard When Worlds Collide about ten thousand times from the small, repeating soundtrack fo Tony Hawks 2 I played a few years back. I liked it, but think your description "monotone rap accompained by really heavy guitar" actually fits that song quite well.
