In the light of the Danish cartoon fiasco, the jailing of Peter Irving and all around confusion about the balance between Free Speech and public civility, I thought the recent news of the suspension of London's mayor for insensitivity was interesting.

I'm torn; should his position as a public official preclude his right as an individual to free speech? Can a public official speak as a private citizen (not that he necesarily was in this case), or do they cede that right when they receive public appointment?

Anything that makes Ken Livingstone shut up, makes me happy. That man has such an annoying voice.

He's also a loud mouthed idiot. IMO. [Grumble]

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that saying "Nazi" about a Jewish reporter is pretty much not tolerated well anywhere.
